Hey Guys and girls(?).

First idd like to say sorry if i placed this post in the wrong section... I hope a moderator will move it for me if thats the case. smile.gif

Introduction:

Ive had my hardware setup for quite some time and ive tried to tamper with the bios setup from a couple of times. With little luck i should mention...

My problem:

Im a total noob when it comes to OC and i really dont understand a thing of it really. So instead of trying to sort it myself and im asking for help instead. Will you please help med with a setup where my hardware runs as it should or help me with a simple OC?

My hardware setup:

ASUS Rampage II Extreme
930 i7
G.Skill PC12800 ram http://www.memoryc.com/products/description/6GB_G_Skill_DDR3_PC3_12800_1600MHz_Trident_Series-6_7_6_18-Triple_Channel_kit/index.html
700W psu.
2x NVIDIA GTX 650 Ti BOOST in SLI

I hope this is sufficient information but if not i will add whats missing.

Please help a noob out!

All you really have to do is put it together and turn it on. If you find that your memory isn't running at 1600 MHz, then you would need to go into the BIOS to set it manually. Of course, I can help you do that if needed!

What's the make and model of your 700W PSU?

Do you have aftermarket cooling on your CPU, or stock cooling?

What case do you have?

Do you have the stock case fans and stock case fan configuration, or did you customize it?

Where do you keep your computer? Is it inside of a deskhole, or is it out in the open where it can "breathe" freely?

It's a computer!

Thanks for the reply!

I think my psu is called trident, mastodont or something like that. Ill check later to be sure.
What i can say i about is that its a high efficiency psu (80%?) and it did cost a bit some years ago.

The only extra cooling ive got is 2 fans thats built into the the case.

The case is just a cheap one. Nothing fancy there.

My computer is under my desk which is quite open. Its even in the middle of the room 10" from the wall.

What annoys me the most is that i cant get the clock higher than the low 1066hz and if i tamper with the settings (possibly OC by accident) im met with the glorious blue screen. Blue is my favourite colour but not that lol.

Thanks for your offer to help me its very welcome. :-)

Find out, because if it's as generic as that sounds, then overclocking will have to wait until you get a higher quality PSU because it can be dangerous to overclock with a generic-like PSU powering your system. The 80+ Certification is meaningless when it comes to the quality of a PSU.

Are you sure it's 1066 and not 2133? Was it 800 before? 800 could mean 1600 in this BIOS. Check the "Memory" tab in CPU-Z.

Sorry about the late reply but i ran into a lot of work and family issues.

The PSU is called EPSILON 80PLUS and i bloody hell hope i bought a good one. smile.gif

I just checked in CPU-Z and it says NB frequency 2133 MHz. Does that mean that they actually run that?

The DRAM frequency is 530ish but ive got no idea if thats too little or just right.

Again im sorry for the long time after your last reply but i still hope you can help me with this. smile.gif

I am seeing 4 different FSP Epsilon PSUs out on the internet. Which one do you have? (and before I say anything else, I don't know anything about these Epsilon PSUs, but I have a feeling that someone else might, like perhaps @shilka)

I don't know AMD's stuff well enough to answer the question about the NB frequency. :/

For the memory, if the memory frequency in CPU-Z's memory tab is showing as 533, then the memory is at 1066.

So yeah, for me, time is nothing. :)

Sorry again work and family etc....

My PSU is a Epsilon 80PLUS 700W and my RAM is running at a frequency of 533mhz.

I really dont understand why it does that and it really annoys me.... Would be nice if anybody could give me a guide or some help on how to set my bios up to run like it should atleast....

Cheers again for your help so far!

That doesn't narrow it down. I need an exact model number.

Again, what do you see in CPU-Z's "Memory" tab? As I said, if you are seeing 533, then it's 1066 because that's the way Double Data Rate memory works. Double Data Rate is DDR. DDR2 and 3 is like saying, "DDR Version 2" and "DDR Version 3".

Back again after a few weeks holiday and thanks if you are still around. smile.gif

Found the serial number s8071150495 and product number ppa7000500 which i hope will help. smile.gif

CPU-Z says 1066 as it says in the bios. My Ram is running in tripple mode or at least i hope they do lol. Well they are capable of doing it anyway. smile.gif

Edit: found the psu on the net through a danish site Fortron/Source Epsilon 700, 80 PLUS

I stumbled across some vital info on the internet:

http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/printpage/Everything-You-Need-to-Know-About-the-Dual-Triple-and-Quad-Channel-Memory-Architectures/133

Apparently they are stuck at 1066Mhz because im running my ram in triple mode so thats the sollution to that. One down many more to come lol. smile.gif
