I need serious help, I have no knowledge at all

Hey, I have this PC build and I want to upgrade a few thongs. However, I have no clue what to do/get.

Here are my computer specs;

Operating System

Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1
CPU
Intel Core i5 2400 @ 3.10GHz 38 °C
Sandy Bridge 32nm Technology
RAM
4.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz (9-9-9-24)
Motherboard
Foxconn H67MP-S/-V/H67MP (CPU 1) 33 °C
Graphics
iiyama (1600x1200@60Hz)
2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti (Gigabyte) 24 °C
Storage
931GB Volume0 (SATA)
Optical Drives
Optiarc DVD RW AD-5260S
Audio
Plantronics GameCom
PSU
Corsair 750w

I was told by a friend I should upgrade my RAM, but I have no clue which one to get.
And I was also told I need to upgrade my motherboard, but this is the one I did not want to do. Because I will have to reinstal windows if I buy a new motherboard right? And I no longer have access to my Windows disc nor do I have the key anymore. frown.gif

I love to game, so anything which will make my gaming experience a little easier would be appreciated, thank you all.

you can retrieve your key with this program

http://download.cnet.com/Magical-Jelly-Bean-Keyfinder-Portable/3000-20432_4-75781124.html

depends on what your goals are.
what is your budget
are you going to over clock

A couple more data points would help.
- Rig use - gaming, general use, workstation (probably not wink.gif)
- monitor you currently are using
- budget for your upgrades

Then we can be a bit more specific in advice thumb.gif

Just general gaming, but being able to play without having lag due to graphics. What will more RAM actually do for me? Will it make my PC load faster?

I don't think I will overclock.

If you want faster load times, get yourself a SSD, you won't look back. As feznz said you can get your windows key, download a copy of windows 7 and make a bootable usb.

More RAM isn't the best way to spend your money, you can increase the speed of it in the BIOS though. I've always read that 1600MHz with CL9 is a sweet spot.

What SSD should I get? And what is it for?

I thought more RAM will increase my PC/Gaming speed.

What is your exact PSU model? I am guessing its a CX750 right? which in this case it is fine since you will not be overclocking - please give us a budget so that the members of OCN has a better idea in helping you

It is a Corsair Bronze 750w

I've never overclocked before, is it safe to do?

It is safe if you know what you are doing. Lots of info on this site. I suggest you start reading. Lots to learn lol

your CPU is locked so overclocking is out of the question with your current setup, it was more of general question on how far you will go for more performance.

IMO to be honestly seriously I would be looking at a complete system you might get away with your current PSU and case.

because bare minimum upgrade, I would be replacing CPU for a 3750k(probably only available Second hand), ram for at lest 1600Mhz+ that is the fastest your mobo will support, Graphics card to Gtx 770 or r9 280x and change out your hard drive for a SSD, this will lead to the inevitable reinstalling of windows, that's a good thing really if you are a little inexperienced I am sure windows will be bloated a clean install with no hardware changes would probably be an instant performance boost.

I would personally would upgrade to a Haswell motherboard that supports SLI and Crossfire and get a 4750k CPU, with 8Gb 2133Mhz ram
