The tablet controller is more debatable but its not being utilized in any meaning full way. The fact that "wii u games can be played just using the gamepad screen" is advertised as an key feature is a very good indicator that the screen it isn't very necessary or useful for gaming and the battery live is an very real issue.
Its even more gimmicky than the kinect. I'm actually kinda surprised that Nintendo didn't bail on it and offer up an cheaper version of the Wii U with just a good traditional controller.
So yes its "solely" my opinion but that opinion is based on very real facts.
1) I haven't missed them either. What does that mean, the controller is flawed, or that Nintendo can do away without them? In which case it's not a flaw rather a design decision.
2) Depends on what you call 'a meaningful way'. That to me means not having to stop my game to check the inventory, check the map, or do any other trivial and mundane thing. And that is just the laziest of applications you can use the controller for.
3) That is again solely your opinion. Plus the tablet controller is used for many system software (browser keyboard, eShop navigation, youTube app navigation, MK8 video editing, Pikmin center of virtually everything except moving your character and throwing Pikmin away, you can play Wii solely on your controller as it even has an integrated IR bar), and I could go on and on.
So based on facts... Yeah... try harder. Didn't work.
