The issue with linux is and always has been software. Linux relies largely on opensource software that has an very wide scatter in terms of quality. For better or for worse the lack of high quality proprietary software is one of the major hurdles why linux isn't more wide spread.

As for this android laptop. I could see the appeal of it. As it runs on an NVIDIA Tegra 4 its ARM not x86 and so its closer to an tablet then an laptop in many ways. Essentially it's a Asus transformer without the transform part.

Long battery life. Low cost. All the android software but has and solid keyboard. For someone how needs to type a lot of emails on the go ect. I could see this being very useful. The thing is though is that I think it should have been even smaller like 11" and an even longer battery life.

I like this and may even get one. However that is due to my unique circumstances, I currently own a desktop PC (see sig rig), a 17" laptop and a tablet, none of these devices are completely suitable for taking into uni with me to type with, the laptop is far too heavy and big to justify taking it to uni everyday, my tablet is great for browsing the web but is far too awkward to repeatedly type all day switching between programs ect... for me this could be a happy medium with my pc being used to game.

I think the thing with this group is that they haven't heard of linux, but have heard of android. Thus HP thinks it will sell more.

Gotta say, I really enjoy my surface 2 with type cover for those type of situations. Especially since I get to use office applications in their native form. This is the RT, not the pro.

I mean considering office usually costs like $100-$200 depending what you want, to have it free on the tablet really makes the surface 2 a pretty good deal.

I think it's kinda brilliant, and it/more to come might end up completely dominating low end machines. No one knows what chromeos/chromebook is or what it does, everyone and ma has a cheap android phone that they are familiar with. Here's a keyboard and a big as screen they can sit on the couch with. I like it!

Gotta laugh a bit, I can just about imagine HP support trying to tell ma what she just did to her linux distro and why it isn't working rolleyes.gif

Not sure what HP thinks about. With the failure of the WebOS Touchpad. Now android laptop $430, you can get a full win 8.1 Asus T100 2-in-1 Tablet/laptop from $349-$499.
This will be another flop, and bad investment for HP.
