7870XT won't output to three monitors

Thread Starter
After a few days of trying to figure out why my new Qnix monitor wouldn't work, I realized that my card is refusing to output to 3 displays at once. Right now I have two monitors hooked up via DVI-D (the Qnix) and HDMI (a dell), but when I plug in mini display to HDMI for my TV it shuts off the DVI output. The TV shows up as monitor 1, which would normally be the Qnix, and unplugging the TV swaps back to the DVI.

The 7870/7950 should be able to do a triple monitor display no problem, right?

there are only 2 legacy clocks, you will need an active DP adapter for the 3rd monitor.

290s have 3, so a passive adapter is enough.

Yep, there's only 2 TMDS resources. You'll need an active adapter.

You guys are talking about an active adapter for DP to DVI-D? Would that add any input lag or cause any issues due to the fact that the Qnix doesn't have a scaler built in?

not with active.

people had issues with passive, but they fixed it with driver updates.

are you sure none of your monitors have a DP input? that would solve your problem.

as far as the scaler goes, if you enable gpu scaling in CCC, it shouldn't be an issue.

The Qnix only has a dual link DVI, and the dell only has HDMI. Obviously the TV also only has HDMI.

What if I got an active display port to HDMI, such as http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DOZHL82 to use with the Dell. That way the card would see 1 DP, and HDMI (TV) and DVI-D for the two legacy connections?

yup, that would do it...

i assume the dell has a n internal scaler, so that shouldn't pose any problems.

Need to bump this because I still haven't solved the problem.

Now I have a Sapphire 290X and still can't get 3 displays on at the same time. My Qnix is plugged into DVI, TV into HDMI, and when I plug in my other monitor using an active DP to hdmi connector the Qnix loses signal..

Even if I didn't have the active DP adapter, it's my understanding that the new R9 cards support 3 legacy connections simultaneously anyways.

Edit: Whelp, figured it out. Turned out to be windows settings, needed to extend the desktop.
