Was your 7970 OCed? I could never play FC3 with an OC on either of the 7970s i had, game would crash and stutter. Set it to default clocks and it was smooth as could be.
I honestly believe that EA is trying their hardest to make their PC gamers happy. They have that 24 hour guarantee. Ask Ubisoft for a refund after a day and let's see how well that goes down. EA knows that the bulk of PC gamers care about the little things like CPU optimization. I say little because it isn't something that most people would bring up when talking about BF4. Most people would bring up the gameplay and graphics. BF4 runs great on my FX 8350 and R9 280X. It ran very well on my HD 7870 too. If you look at the code, which I can't make sense of, I promise that a seasoned PC programmer would prefer DICE's code to anything that Ubisoft's in house developers could put out.
As for the network infrastructure, EA is no better than Ubisoft, but at least when they made the poor decision to rush the game, they delayed DLC and put stability on the top of the list of improvements. I think BF4 should have come out this spring. As of now, I have never been dropped from a game due to the network in at least the last 3 months or so.
