Seasonic 620w m12ii evo - VERY LOUD UNDER LOAD

Hey guys,

So i've replaced my old Corsair vX550W after 5 years. The main reason was, that fan on Corsair was spinning
like a devil being freezed by arnold schwarzeneger in the old Batman movie...

I was reading some good reviews for this PSU, that it is quiet, good power efficient etc.

But well, i'm really surprised in a bad way how loud this PSU had become after playing BF 4 for few seconds.

I mean, any game i've started, the PSU immediately started rammping up, becoming really noticable.

In idle, i can't hear PSU, but under load... oh my god... i really didn't help myself, if its like maybe 20% quiter
even that would be much, againt my old Corsair PSU.

My computer is as following.

cpu: i7 920 D0 @ 3,8 ghz
gpu:Gigabyte HD7970 non refference
case: Fractal Define R4

Do you guys think, that 620W PSU is not enough, or i should buy some other 650-750 W PSU, just because this one
might be that loud just because it's build like that ?

I need help, and will be thankful for any reasonable advice.

It's a common issue I'm afraid, it has a very aggressive fan profile. More so than most Seasonic power supplies.

You definitely have enough wattage, that's not the issue.

I have that psu. It does hum pretty good when a heavy load is on it. It's not too obnoxious though. My 2nd rig has an overvolted gtx 580@ 950 MHz with 4670k @4.5ghz. When my son creates local gmod server and plays I hear it spinning up. Bf4 mp leaves it silent though. I'm glad someone else complained. I thought something might be wrong with the fan.

My other seasonic g750 is never audible. Not sure if I'm not pushing if or it's just that quiet.

Well, it's pretty disturbing i must say, wasn't really expecting this...

So what should i do ?

Is there some PSU in this price range or let's say in price range of 100€ that would be quiet under load ?

Because i really can't stand this kind of noise...

Can you return your current PSU? Even though it is loud, it's a great unit and would be a shame to just get rid of it.

Cooler Master V550S

XFX XTR 550W

Seasonic G-550 (still has a fairly aggressive fan profile compared to similar units from other brands, but will still be much quieter than the M12II EVO)

Yes i can return it for a 14 days.

I've bought it just today.

And what do you think about Corsair RM series ?

So u have some kind of advice of buying some other unit that would be quiter ?
The units I mentioned above. If you want fully modular then the XTR would be your best option, the VS and G are both semi-modular.

Just caught your edit. It's good, but overpriced in the majority of locations.

Well from these, i am able to buy Seasonic only...

And i would really love to have a modular PSU.

Well the XFX looks really good, but our local stores dont have it... :/

And i am really looking for something, that will be quiet... so i'm not sure if Corsair or the Seasonic u've mentioned will be quiet.

If the only two options are the Seasonic G-550 and Corsair RM550 and they are around the same price, then I'd take the G-550.

It's a step up from the RM550 in terms of overall build quality and performance.

Dont bother with the Corsair RM its not bad but when looking at what you get for the money you pay its not worth it unless its dirt cheap.

Well, problem is that i cannot buy this unit i mean Coolermaster anywhere, my local stores don't have it.

Is there some substitute you would recommend ?

EDIT:

i can buy this one

CoolerMaster Vanquard Gold Series 700W Modular

is it the series u have ?

Just make sure it's the same model.
Or what would be better buy ?

Seasonic P660

or this Coolermaster?

Because Seasonic has a Platinum efficiency.

HardOCP's comment about the V800 sound (same Protechnic fan as the V700)

The Cooler Master V850 is yet another example of a power supply from the Seasonic X-Series lineage. Over the years, these units have been generally very quiet as these feature large overhead fan designs, an open layout, high efficiency, and a good fan controller. One aspect that has changed over the years, among rebranded products in particular, is the fan that has been paired with all of this. When that fan has been Seasonic's default Sanyo Denki we have seen extremely good results for real life users at all output levels and loads. Today though, Cooler Master has switched up to a fluid dynamic bearing fan from Protechnic on the auspice that it will be quieter as many people seem to think. While academically this can be true at times, today's results didn't seem to show a practical difference. Rather, like units before it with ball bearing designs, this unit was quiet in our load testing right up until full load at 100v AC input. That makes this unit right in the ball park of the Seasonic X-850 before it and that means it will indeed be quiet in most every real environment. The FDB fan is nice, but it did not seem to meaningfully impact noise level today when viewed in our load testing environment.

You're good to go.

I know, but they said same kind of thing about seasonic-620w-m12ii-evo.

and both of us saw, what it was in reality...

so i'm really concerned now, if it will be quiet in reality.

Corsairs psu are really quiet also, and are cheaper, so im deciding now...

80 plus and efficiency has nothing to do with quality, and both are the same PSU

Cooler Master V or VS and avoid the RM its not very good when looking at what you pay for it

I hate to bump this thread, but I am experiencing the same issue with my s12ii-520. Under high GPU load, the fan is roughly twice as loud as any other component. I'm looking at the V750 as I've heard good things about these PSU's. It's overkill, but hopefully it means the fan won't spin up as fast.....
