AsRock Z77 OC Formula any good?

I'm looking for a used board and it's going to host a 2600k or 3770k along with a H100i.

I found this AsRock Z77 OC Formula but I've always had my doubts about AsRock as it's kind of a "budget" brand?

How is the board? Should I just look for another board from a more reputable brand? Say the ASUS P8Z77-V Lineup of boards? Or something from Gigabyte? What is the equivalent of the AsRock Z77 OC Formula in terms of Performance, Reliability, and Price to the other brands?

Any response would be appreciated.

I love my OC Formula.

Provides a host of features, a fairly lengthy, competent BIOS that overclockers will love and simply those that want to slap a chip in and go. It will most likely require a BIOS update, which was a breeze for me.

As to the "budget" branding that Asrock has, I don't really see it on this board. It is up there in terms of quality versus the competition. The only peeve that I really have with the board is that when I am trying to fiddle with an overclock and messing with the voltages, some Asrock boards are infamous of not displaying the correct voltage that is actually being used by the CPU. That might be important if you are into that...

Overall, the Formula has been a blast for me.

Does a budget brand board break overclocking world records? I don't think so. It's a solid board and should be reliable just as any other high end Z77 board. It's hard to compare it to other boards because Z77 is an older platform and you can't really purchase a lot of new Z77 boards anymore. Some of the cheap cheap cheap, Asrock boards aren't that great, but that goes the same for pretty much any manufacturer. The mid-range to high end are very competitive with Gigabyte, Asus, MSI, etc.. and are often priced better. Asrock has come a long way and I would definitely recommend them. My friend has a P67 Pro3 he's been running since launch with a 2500k and it's been working great since day 1 running 24/7

Everyone praised ASROCK these days so i took my chances on this board, never again. I had 2 of these Z77 OC Formula's first came DOA, newegg replacement worked great got a new one within a week. Replacement died on me around 2 months later the 2nd PCIE slot just stopped working. ASROCK customer support, i emailed monday, got my first response that told me to do the "normal" trouble shooting stuff i told them in the first email I had already done. They told me friday its going to need sent back.

So After being told friday it needs shipped back, i didn't get my RMA number till the next Wednesday and i shipped out that day. ASROCK got the package on friday. I didn't expect them to do much till the next monday. After the entire next week passed which put me at 3 weeks since i first emailed I emailed back to ask whats up. No response. I gave it another week still nothing. So now after a month I was really mad and still cound't get an email responce so I needed my PC fixed for school work, so I bought an ASUS Z87 Formula and another new processor and Would just take my losses on the Z77 and sell it once i got a replacement. After around 2 months of waiting I had finally got my first email from ASROCK. My RMA agent had left due to maternity leave and she was the only agent able to finish the process since she started it.

So all said n done I was waiting for around 2.5 months for a replacement, on a board that was already replaced once before. Ive had my share of DOA and broken products, but never dealt with such a horrible RMA service. I RMA my ASUS Z87 Maximus Extreme and while it did take 2 weeks from the time i sent it to the time i got a replacement, at least they were helpful along the way.

When I went back to a X79 platform from Z87 I gave a hard look into another ASROCK product, but I told myself I would pay more to never have to deal with their customer service again, their boards do seem to have alot of nice features (when they work) for a very great price.

@Dopamin3 Just told you
:o
It compares to/surpasses any other high end Z77 board. I'd definitely take it over the P8Z77-V you mentioned, or even the UP7.... Despite the perceived brand stigma it's probably the #1 choice for overclocking on Z77.. http://hwbot.org/hardware/motherboard/z77_oc_formula/ See for yourself
