Wonder if this could be considered a beigemod: http://www.overclock.net/t/1586648/kohver-v-4-portable-partly-watercooled-atx-pc/0_50#post_25335260

Well - it's not stamped steel - but it's from the same era, with just a 2x 80mm fan (the scond one is "optional") for airflow, PSU facing "wrong way" and ofc 2x 3.5'' disk bays and 4x 5.25'' bays. Front panel is (was) a light gray pastic horror ready to slap anyone powering it on with all the colors of the rainbow.

I got it for 25 EUR (including transport) from Germany (international shipping) - probably some kind of clearing the storehouse from stuff thats been sitting there for more than decade or something like that sale.

lol, I quickly learned on my first Beigemod that bugs love jumping into fresh paint. I made a comment about it in my old build log too. That was funny.

lol..yep. I repainted a case that I started a while ago and just got around to finishing it now. I cut a 12cm hole in the side, if you call that a 'mod' and repainted it bright red. Had to wait for the paint to dry to remove the bugs, sand it lightly to smooth the paint out, and repaint the area. Luckily I had a few days with no kamikazi bugs. Still didn't come out great, but its not half bad either.

I am considering putting some casters on the bottom. Originally it was an option, but I didn't buy it that way. Mfr doesn't respond to me when asking to order them. Not listed as part on the site. Figure to build some with square tubing and a couple M6 bolts. The casters I ordered a few years ago from a caster warehouse but the case is kind of top heavy, so it wants to tip if you move it. The orginals were to the side a bit, I want to replicate that.

Glad this got bumped again, I got some internals for a case I have wanted to mod/build for a long time. Looking at it closer it came originally with an SFX PSU, but I'm pretty sure the 2amps on the (original psu) 12v rail isn't going to support the new gear.... tongue.gif

Sadly any decent sized SFX psu is expensive, so now I'm wondering if I should just cut the psu hole out larger or bite the bullet on a used or otherwise SFX PSU.

I'm intending to make it full sleeper on the outside, with faux cd rom plate and floppy drive, then gutting interior structure for lots of room. I'm not sure if I cut out a larger opening in the back that anyone would actually notice though. I haven't ever really worked on a SFF case, so it will be interesting with space constraints. biggrin.gif

Have you got any pics of the case? In my experience it's how you can effectively cool a setup [rather than PSU form factor] that sets a limit to what hardware you can use.

Also, don't overestimate the size of the PSU you need for a machine. For many years I ran a Phenom II X3 720 and a HD4890 [plus drives, etc] from a quality SeaSonic 300W [edit: SFX] PSU. Consider newer, more efficient tech: under a typical workload [playing Crysis 3 at 4K], TechReport measured 265W at the wall for their i7 5960X + GTX 1080 rig - I haven't seen absolute stress test power draw numbers for that kind of rig, but if you're wanting to actually use the machine rather than spend/waste time benchmarking, you don't need to go overboard with PSU ratings. Everybody wants to sell you high wattage PSUs, so do your homework to find out what you actually need.
I could definitely get away with a 300-400w psu, probably even less to start but who knows where this thing goes.

Got some pics of it tore down. "Blank Canvas" biggrin.gif The stickers are so awesome lol

So far I have a m-atx AMD mobo with a dual core, so that won't take hardly any power. Thinking to toss in some old GPU which won't use much power either likely. Not sure what to use it for, It may become some type of server or I may get a bit crazy and try to stuff some watercooling in it with a big gpu. At the moment budget is basically 0, and i need a bracket for the motherboard to mount a cooler to even start playing with it. I'll definitely start a build log if it gets going somewhere.

Got it stripped here

Standard PSU size compared to SFX psu opening, modding probably wouldn't be to bad if it will physically fit inside with clearance for mobo.

Original PSU it powered that beastly 600mhz Pentium 3 tongue.gif

Original guts (maybe upgraded ram by me when I was messing with it) Pretty sure it still worked, Windows ME or 98 on it can't remember
post #460 of 560
I have a similar model e machine sitting in front of me, but it's even older, got a 450mhz processor! thumb.gif
Found it dumped on the roadside, got it home and it was completely dead. Worked out it needed a new PSU, it also had a non standard PSU. I probably could have found a replacement but couldn't be bothered and I ended up just sticking in an old 400w ATX unit instead, it's easy to do you just have to dremel away the back panel a little. thumb.gif

And it booted right up! It has a Pentium III slot mount and I upgraded the RAM to 128mb haha. wink.gif
It seemed to have been dragged as there were scratches all down the side which is why I painted the case cover black to hide it, I think it looks okay actually!

Can't wait to see yours get a full rebuild, I would upgrade mine but I'm keeping it as a retro rig for now thumb.gif

Here is a picture of it, they are neat little cases aren't they? I was sad to see mine didn't have the ''never obsolete'' sticker this model was sold with though. I'd pay for that sticker if I could find one drool.gif
