Wow, I didn't think this log would still be going this strong! It makes me happy to see it still chugging along.

So this was my most recent mod.... does it count? More like a sleeper mod than a beige. My silent HTPC using an ASUS N3050T motherboard.

In all reality, my current buildlog (going on 2 years now) is a true beigemod! I didn't even realize it until I was browsing the thread and saw S7s stacked mod. But here's my beige mod club submission(Build log in sig: Double Dragon). Sorry it took so long to realize it. rolleyes.gif

Quite nice build. Although to be honest this looks more like scratch build than a case-mod wink.gif The changes to the cases are so significant that it seems like only a motherboard tray and some part of the back panel are going to remain from original cases. Regardless - a very worthy use of older cases in my book.

Yeah it definitely started out as less of a scratch build. Originally my goal was to find two of the same cases, flip and join. Then add hardware, windows as necessary. But since I was digging through the pile at a local computer shop, finding two identical ones was impossible. I did have the fronts modded, but found the structure was too flimsy for what I needed. Thus the new frame. I did initially use the top of the grey case to make the PSU back piece, but it didn't look as clean as I wanted, so I re made it haha.

Pieces used also:
- HDD cage( cut down)
- Optical drive metal blank( used to hold HDD cage together)
- various pieces of the frame to make L brackets
- Probablly much more once I start making pump/res/rad mounts

Trying to incorporate as much of the old cases as possible. thumb.gif

Thanks! It's definitely been a large project. Been hoping to get more work done on it, but it's been difficult with the new baby(and by new I mean turning 1 this month) lol. redface.gif

It actually makes me feel good that most people that see those side panels ask if I laser cut them. That just makes me proud of my jigsaw skills biggrin.gif .

Most important things to remember when cutting any thin metal with a jigsaw are:
1. If possible use screws to attach the metal to a piece of plywood, this prevents most of the flex and possible tearing of the metal.
2. Go slow.... and I don't mean the blade speed. A high speed blade with painful slow methodical movements will help prevent the snagging and possible tearing of the metal.
3. If you make a stencil out of paper, you can tape it down really well and use spray paint to lay down the design.
4. Make sure you start out with a nice clean and sharp metal blade( new preferably ). I wouldn't go any lower than 20+ TPI(teeth per inch) but it's doable with 17-18 TPI.

I did try to use a scroll saw with a metal blade, but I had so many turns I broke blades too easily.

That "Never Obsolete" sticker is awesome. I chose my most recent beige mod purely because of the sticker on it.

It says Y2K Year 2000 Hardware Ready

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

I wanted to do kinda a sleeper/rat rod look with this one and the whole build is pretty much used parts I had laying around apart from the rads and some materials I picked up from the hardware store.

I ended up sanding it down to metal and painted several layers of colour, Rust oxide, brown, tan, beige, then brown again in the cracks and sanded it down.
On the right is after paint, and left is after sanding it down the second time.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Then i sprayed it with salt water and waited

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

And here is what I managed to cram inside mocked up.

I still need to tear it all down again and repaint all the black that got scratched up as I hacked away bits of the case to make things fit and order some fans, I'm just using a couple from the spares bin right now till something I like goes on sale. Other than that its currently fully functional.

That is awesome. Some seriously cool work there. I'll add you to the rolls this weekend.

And another awesome job. We've had a few 'borderline' not-quite-beige builds included, so I'm good with this one as well. Welcome aboard. And when I started this group, I didn't have a clue it would have this kind of longevity. Can't say I'm disappointed. thumb.gif

Took an old Asus Terminator case and chopped it all up. Goal was to make the smallest possible case for an mATX motherboard I got, while still being able to get a decent graphics card in there. The end result: 230mm x 180 mm x 250 mm, with a volume of 10.35 L (for reference, a NCASE M1 is 12.6 L and that's for a mITX motherboard)
