[Build Log] Project "Black Hawk" X79 -> Z77 - Page 5

Progress 28.08.14

I came up with a "new" idea today about what I could do about the reservoir-problems.

My solution is this:

- Make MO-RA3 grills/fastenings for the X-Res's out of acrylic
- Buy another EK-D5 X-Res 140 CSQ with 2x 204 mm tubing
- Buy a few more QD3's (between the X-Res's)
- Make a new bracket for the EK-D5 X-Res 140 CSQ's
- Mount one X-Res on the front of each MO-RA3 420 LT

The run the D5's in series with QD3's between them.

Progress 30.08.14

I got the second MO-RA3 420 LT, 9x Cooltek 140 mm 900 rpm fans, distilled water and some QD3's (I have ordered three QD3's more). The EK-X-Res 140 CSQ with the 2x 204 mm tubes probably will be shipped in about a week or so .... so I guess it is "downtime" until then.

On another note, I am in the stage of getting a better CPU, I would really like to get a good overclocking chip (used), either 3960X/3970X/4930K/4960X that could do 4,7 Ghz + with 1,4 voltage or below. The framerates start to get better at 4,6 Ghz with the 3930K, but then it is at 1,44 volts and that is pretty high so I would rather have another chip to use in this system. New RAM may come too, then some 2400/2666 DDR3.

Update 10.09.14

2x EK-D5 X-Res 140 CSQ with Swiftech MCP655s

4x QD3's of both female and male with 3/8"ID-5/8"OD.

I am sitting here and wondering about doing a few changes to my loop, I am thinking of changing out most of the 90 and 45 degree angles with Bitspower Multi-Link adapter 90 and 45 degree, with both 1/4 BSP and the once with multi-links in both ends. I will use nickel-plated tubing for the "extenders" because some of the 90 degree and extenders I use now actually surprised me that it was tight, in my mind it should have leaked, I do not like to do my loop like that, but it got the job done when I was assembling it a while back. I am also planning to add my Bitspower Mini Valve to the loop to drain it.

I have wondered about going "all black" for fittings, but the EK-Supremacy is still Full Nickel and the copper tubing is nickel-colored so there is really no reason to do that. I also have to buy black multi-links then. What do you guys think? Stick with Silver Shining or go for matte black?

I have bought a i7-4930K to go with this build, probably coming in some time next week, so then we will see how it will work.

Progress 18.09.14

Today I got around and changed out the white 24-pin extension cable with a black one, I also got around and cut and bended the mounting-brackets for the MO-RA3's for the EK-D5 X-Res. I think I will spend about 25 USD on 2 meters of chromeplated copper tubing tomorrow and re-do some/pretty much all of my loop. My tubing is chromeplated, not nickelplated as I first thought.

The idea is to get rid of all the 45's, 90's and extenders that I have used till now and just use the hard tubing, I think it will look much cleaner than what I have now too.

I will change out the 2x 8-pin to 6-pin + 6+2-pins to 4x 8-pin to 6+2-pins (I have two packages of EVGA G2/P2 sleeve, might as well use both).

The parts will be installed into my custom Air 540, I might do some changes to the case further down the road, but for now I will stick to how it is now.

Update 23.09.14

Resurrected at last, golden 4930K brought to me from US that replaced the old 3930K. I have done some improvement otherwise to solve some of my problems with power dilivery. Up and running again and it feels good, now it is time for some overclocking. thumb.gif
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

2x MO-RA3 420 LT with "custom" made acrylic mounting plates for pump/reservoirs, 2x EK-D5 X-Res 140 CSQ, 3x QD3's.

New RAM-->GPU loop consisting of EK-ZMT and Bitspower compression fittings (3/8"-5/8").
Changed white 24-pin extention to black 24-pin extention
Changed 2x 6-pin + 6+2-pin with 4x 6+2-pin.

Yes, it is quite genius if I have to say so (not my creation though, it has been done before with the MO-RA-grills). I just think that those grills is wastly overpriced so I just made an acrylic plate to mount them onto, not my best work, but I can live with it.

It was really easy to fill this hole thing when it was done like this, I have QD3's on each side of the MO-RA3's so I just connected the MO-RA3's together and filled it up, then bleeded it. Then I connected the computer to the MO-RA3's and I only topped up the reservoirs three to four times and I was in business. smile.gif I really like the idea of having as much as possible outside of the case and mounted on to something, because it is much simpler than having all that seperated, easy to move and looks pretty clean. tongue.gif
