I had an issue in a vertical motherboard case when I put waterblocks on my SLI 680's a while back.
I ended up using some plastic coated wire (black) to fashion a support for the end of the cards and strung it to the roof of that case to help take the load off. Bending PCB's under heat and load make me nervous, although I never had any issue functionally with the cards.
Actually, thinking back, those cards were awesome.
