I know that at non turbo settings, it runs at 1.38v. However, my FX8350 is over 3 years old.

No, you are not pushing enough volts. You need a spectacular cooler to OC most of the FX chips very far.

On that board 1.38v is the measured voltage after the +0.1 if you have applied it already. The FX-8300 I have set up needs 1.45v to do 4.6ghz and 1.35v to do 4.4ghz. The E series chips seem to be a hit or miss, so 1.3v-1.35v for 4.2ghz sounds like a reasonable place where the chip is the limiting factor. If you want to go higher, get a better HSF and shoot for 1.4v and see where that gets you. I have run up to 1.6v on the 970 Gaming with no issues.

Unfortunatly IBT is going ok, is passing quite all the very high stress test (10 run). That's said i've just done a prima 95 yesterday evening, unfortunatly there were 1 fatal error. I bumped the vcore up from 1.328 (dropped at 1.320 during test) to 1.328 (dropped from 1.336 v) semmes the the MSI 970 gaming have a vdrop near 0.008 v. Don't know if it's good or not but, this is in my situation. Maybe this info can help some other one smile.gif.

Ok guys, got a 1.328 under stress v core on my cpu. Prime did not fail, but it stop to work after 4-5 hours. Stressing some of my ram and seeing what will happen.
Anyway i'm just thinking to rise up my vcore a little more, 1.344 and i will hope it will be stable.
If u have any suggestion smile.gif

1.48vcore + .500 bump in north bridge and I went 2hrs stable @ 4.5ghz (I am gaming only so Idc 2hrs seem stable enough for me)

Well, cannot go ahead with vcore and frequencies. My real limit is the cpu cooler (and the mb redface.gif ). What did you mean with IDC ?
Anyway, i'm considering to do a windows memory test cause of prime fails (crush during test), maybe my xmp is not stable.
What about the northbridge? Have i to bump up a notch near the cpu freq 4.0 ghz?
After i'll post some solution for an active fan near the vrm heatsink wink.gif .

Thanks thumb.gif

If you are only using the computer for gaming only having it stable for at least 2hrs should be good enough for an overclock.

Well, it would be better at least for 6 , even if prime could fail after 6-12-18 h.
Don't know why, always after a certain vcore (usually past 1.336 v [this valor is without the vdrop] ), i've got prime 95 stopped working when i come back, not getting the usual error that overcome.
