MSI 970 Gaming anyone? - Page 44

Oh, my bad then. I haven't read correctly. I'm not sure that you can disable a part of module on any board, I've owned a Sabertooth, and it too had the option to disable 2 cores (1 module), you could've ofcourse picked out which one. I think it's impossible to disable individual cores on 8 core FXs. Don't think it's possible due to hardware limitations and the whole structure. On the DS3P I've had the AM3+ BIOS (not sure what you mean by that), but the only thing possible was to disable 2 cores on each separate module (cores 0 and 1, 2 and 3, etc).

Sorry if I misguided you.

Yeah, some boards allow you to disable 1/2 of the cores by changing the core config to 1 core per module, but that was not available on all boards. All of the boards I have seen allow you to choose 2, 4, 6, or 8 cores though.

The 1 core per module setting can improve single thread performance by ~5% or so at the expense of reducing MT performance by around half. Which can help in the few edge cases where ST performance is preferable.

Nothing unusual because of the crappy components
As long as it still works I wouldnt worry too much about it
Mine also looks like this since a year and a half now and it still works

The thermal pad under the VRM heatsink has melted and is soaking into the pcb. Sometimes this causes a short circuit.

Don't wanna say much, but most of 970 boards, even 990FX boards, are bad unless they're Asus. I'm not a fanboy, I just want the best stuff for the money I can afford, but seems FX's run best on Asus hardware. It's a shame what other manufecturers did to this platform.
