My first build to create "The New Relic"

So I got around to starting my first build. For now, I call it The New Relic.
It's an Asus P5Q Pro Turbo based system. I'll be overclocking, and will primarily be using it for gaming and stuff. I'd like to try out games like Arma 3 on it.
I'll get around to picking up a set of gpu's for crossfire sometime.
I hope the board works the way it should, I didn't test it yet. I have some other Asus 775 socket boards that need to be tested, but they're ddr3 and I'm still waiting on ram.

I got most of the parts from ebay, and my profile list includes shipping costs.
  • Raidmax Vortex case
  • Asus P5Q Pro Turbo
  • Xeon X5460
  • Xigmatek Balder cooler
  • Diablotek 600w PSU
  • Nvidia gtx260
  • Corsair XMS2 800mhz
  • Seagate Barracuda 1tb
  • Asus dvd/cd optical
  • D-Link network card
  • Enermax TB Silence twister fan
Total cost of this Rig: $472 (USD)

When I got the case, by the looks of the shipping box it looked like it had been through a journey. There was a small dent on one of the side panels.
I figurered I might as well tell newegg about it since I bought it from them on ebay. They gave me a $5 partial refund. So I ordered a fan, optical drive and thermal paste from them.thumb.gif
The case seems good for it's price range. Although it only came with one fan and doesn't include the quick fasten system for the drive bays.

Once I got enough parts together I started putting things together. Imgur album
I know, the wiring looks hideous without sleeves.

For the air cooling I'll go with front and top intake with rear exhaust. If that doesn't work out I'll switch the top to exhaust.

I have what I need to use the build for now. Waiting for a couple of other fans still and another 1tb hard drive. Other than it's pretty much done.

Nice retro build. You should swap out that PSU soon. Diablotek makes some real crap. Be a shame if it took some of your system components with it when it fizzles.

Yeah. I'll be replacing the psu with the ultra x4 before I put in a better gpu. I'll start off with the cheapo en9500 and c2d for testing and move my way up from there.
