As the title implies, I'm struggling to choose a set of D5 type pumps for my next water cooling project...as far as I know there isn't a great deal of difference between all of the brands, but I would love some suggestions and reasons as to why 'X' brand is preferred and what benefits are had over other choices in the market in terms of quality and price/performance.

They are all pretty much the same. I'm not absolutely 100% on this, but I think every D5 is just rebranded from a single OEM, but not sure who that is. Really the only choice to make is do you want PWM or manual control.

Honestly, you can't go wrong with any D5. Originally I wanted a Swiftech, but when I went searching, it was out of stock, and the general consensus when I had this very question was "It doesn't matter which brand."

Dont take my word for this 100% as i have only used a few brands. but im 99.99% sure all laing D5 pumps come from the same factory in China. The pump tops are what you might want to do some research on to find out what works best for your setup.

btw my EK d5 pump came with an Ek top and an xspc pump. The only differences are whether you get the variable speed version or not. I would highly recomend the variable speed version and set it to speed 1. Ultra silent .

Ah yes, the pump top. How could I forget. This does make a difference in performance and ease of setup. I'm using the Bitspower D5 Mod Top V2 Pom version. Easy to install and mount and gives you many options for running lines.

I also recommend the variable speed. 95% of all loops will be fine with a single D5 on it's lowest setting. Only really complex loops would require more power.

All D5s are rebrands of the same pump manufactured by Laing. One thing to look out for is that I believe Swiftech will void the warranty on their pumps if you use a third-party top. Other manufacturers don't do this. I have owned two XSPC rebrands without a problem.

I am using a Swiftech pump with the stock top and it is damn near silent even at speed setting 5. Installing the unit with a foam pad under it will keep it buzz and rattle free. I have a single loop with 3 blocks, 2 tube resevoirs, and 2 radiators and the pump only needs to be on speed setting 3

Ah I thought as much, thank you for the input guys, looks I'll just get whatever is the cheapest with speed control built in, I initially wondered whether was any difference between any of them, seeings how the Koolance PMP-450 claims to have slightly better specs than say, the EK D5 Varia etc..but I now somehow doubt that if they are all just coming out of the same factory.

They are all Laing D5's and will perform the same... The only one I don't recommend is the Swiftech, because you void your warranty if pump top is removed (don't know if it still works like this nowaday).
