Hello, i have Win 7 SP1 , my account is the default administrator , i have created also one for my brother, which as well is administrator.

My questions are :

Why we share one Desktop folder - when he rearanges the icons or deletes them, he modifies my icons as well, and how can i fix that ?

How can i have my User folder protected ( ask for my password ), instead of him having free access to it ?

If you go into the User Accounts utility (Control Panel > User Accounts) do you see both accounts listed?

Are you sure that you are logging off of your account and your brother is logging in to his account before making changes?

Is there a compelling reason that you granted your brother Administrative rights?

Well, i know that i did it right, this is basic stuff.

I gave him admin perms, because from time to time he wants to install his own games, and it is too bothersome if only i have admin rights.
Yes, i am completely sure that he is using his own account, as my is password protected, and his isn't.

What i need to know is, if there is a way to protect my Users folder ( My Music , Downloads, My Pictures and such ) , without the use of a 3rd party program. I have already done that in WinXP with some FolderLock program i think, and it was pain in the ass, every time i had to unlock it , even if i was in my own account.

You both have separate desktop folders. However, some desktop icons are shared between user accounts (see the files in "C:\Users\Public\Desktop"). You can copy those icons to your personal desktop folder ("C:\Users\{username}\Desktop"), and then to his personal desktop folder, and then delete them from the shared desktop folder to help isolate your desktops. Just be aware that some software programs put icons in the public desktop folder during installation, so you may end up with a new game on your desktop when he installs one. If you delete it, it will disappear from both of your desktops. Afterwards, if he re-adds it to his desktop, it will go on his only.

To protect your files, you could use NTFS file permissions. This "protection" is not 100% however, because as an Administrator, he could take ownership of your files, change your login password, or even delete your user account. I don't have time right now to explain how to do it, but maybe someone else will of you need assistance. Basically, on your user profile folder ("C:\Users\{username}\"), remove all the permissions, and then add yourself and SYSTEM with Full Control privileges. If he tries to view anything in your folder, he will get an "Access denied" message.

Mhmmm , the Public desktop was sometihng that i did not even checked.
As for the Owner/Group perms , i did not even used it before and did not imagined i could use it in such way.
I will try out this later, but from your post i presume this will be just enough for my needs.
I know that my brother can modify my account, but it will take him some time to do it ( he is a bit indian ) , so if he get the Rages and can't do it from the first few times he will give up.

Thanks for the help!
