Hello
as the title says i'm planning to get a 4790k and a new mobo
i need to puit 2 780 in sli and a asus phoebus
at the moment i would pick the asus vii hero since i read it is a good mobo for oc and overall features but i don't know if the three components will fit.
have you got any experience/suggestion for the motherboard to get?

Most ATX boards should be able to house your components IF your GPUs are of a dual slot design.

I have a Z87 Sabertooth and the spacing should be basically all the same on the Asus Z87/Z97 ATX boards and I can run two 780 Tis and one Soundblaster Z no problem.
BUT I have had a 780 SLI setup before with a Gigabyte Windforce as the bottom card it did fit just barely.

If I remember correctly, the ACX is not as wide as the Windforce one (not 100% sure though), so you shouldn´t have too many problems if you get the Hero.
Although you need to remember that your soundcard will - at least slightly - block your fron ACX fan. So, you will need real good airflow in your case.

Actually it is the blower cards that are fine with having a sound card underneath them. As a blower creates pressure, it has more sucking power than a fan. That's why you can sandwich blower style cards and not open fan. Though you still can with open fan cards, they just don't have good airflow and can get really hot when done so.

Problem with open air cards is the fans don't create much pressure, so they don't suck that well. So having a open slot to suck in air is key, and anything blocking the intake of a fan can really effect cooling performance. Plus open air coolers push air out of the sides of the card, not the top. So having a sound card above it does nothing to block heat from rising. Sure you might get some heat from the back of the PCB, but that's nothing and keeping that side cooler will do nothing for the card's core temp. Plus if you have any intake fans on the side panel, you are most likely not going to have any hot air pockets anyways. Blower cards push all the hot air outside the case, so heat was never a problem with those.
