Installed liquid cooling kit and having issues; Monitor is on but power light just blinks

I dunno if any of you can help me with this but after tinkering with my computer I got it all to power on, fans & leds & psu & liquid cooling loop, etc. because when I plugged everything back in and went to start up my computer with the liquid cooling kit now installed it just shut off immediately so ya I figured it out by unplugging everything to test to my PSU and it works now like I said. But my monitor isn't showing anything. It just blinks like the computer is in sleep mode. So after some research I realized it is either the monitor or video card. Now I know it's not the monitor because it works fine and hasn't been touched. Have switched out the cables on my monitor and so forth, as well as the RAM stick by stick, but I am assuming maybe my video card isn't getting enough power or something? I have an Antec 750w PSU so it should be fine. My next steps are swapping the vcard out for my old one to see if thats the problem. Any ideas as to what it might be or what I can do to get this working? I know my vcard is fine too because that hasn't been messed with

NOTE: This is on my main build, Big Blue

it's fine man to ask anywhere. you were sure there are no leaks what so ever? can you turn on the pc using the onboard gpu?

you mean just take out the added gpu in the pci slot and see if that works? and yes there were no leaks I did a 12hr test and was watching it the whole time pretty much. I got PCS fittings and made sure everything was copacetic

dang it .. i didn't notice u are on 870.. i'd try running that GPU on any other rig and see what's the issue. You should not have any power shortage issues though. maybe you shorted something while installing the w.c. kit...

#8 ·
yea thats the only thing I can think of, but I don't have another rig to test it on...

ugh if I shorted something on my psu or mobo i'm ****ed and going to have to redo my whole install and get a compatible mobo for the liquid cooling kit I got, although it is compatible with a good amount of mobos. i just hope its something small and not big. it wouldnt make sense that I shorted anything tho, because I never messed with my case or components other than when I drilled the holes for my radiator installation. but all my wires from my psu to my mobo and components were unplugged and untouched so this isnt making sense, I know its not my monitor and ive tried 2 other video cards and still same thing... monitor just blinks

Everything works in my case, PSU on and fan is spinning normally... LEDs for the case fans and those fans are on and working... RAM is okay because I tested that too... Even switched video cards out to see if it was my video card and checked my monitor too and monitor is not the problem. Other video cards didn't change anything. My monitor just acts as if it's in sleep mode. Black screen with blinking power light, as if computer is in sleep mode. When I unplug the cable from my video card it says no signal so I know it's not my monitor by that too. I even switched the cables for my monitor/video card to see if that would fix it. I am thinking something is wrong with the cables from my PSU to my vcard

or hopefully not, but possibly something happened to my mobo or the cables that power my vcard.... i really hope it's nothing serious sighh

Agreed try that. Best troubleshooting procedure is to only keep what is absolutely necessary to boot up. So have psu, gpu, cpu, one stick of ram, keyboard, and mouse and see if you can get to bios. Try removing gpu and boot from onboard gpu (mobo). Try different gpu if possible, PSU worth a shot too. Try different psu cables. Go through element by element to narrow down cause of issues.

I don't have a diff PSU but have tried different GPUs(video cards.. 2 of them now) and nothings changed. So with my setup I have I can take out the video card and try just booting it without it? I didn't know there was onboard GPU, because what will monitor plug into without my video card lol I don't think my mobo has that option

Okay two minor but major things. Make sure your 12v for the CPU is plugged in and also make sure you have plugged something into the CPU fan header. Sometimes motherboard makers think they are smart and they put a safety feature on that header so you can't turn on you computer without a fan to cool the cpu. No, your motherboard doesn't have the ability for video out but, you aren't sunk yet. If anyone can help you this community can.

Also best bet is to take everything out except one stick of memory, gpu, and cpu. See if you can at least get to the bios setup screens. Then add in things as you go.

Edit. sorry I saw they suggested this already..

Yea I started it up with everything plugged in thinking it'd work fine, and it shut off immediately. So I started off with just mobo 8pin and 24(or 20 pin, whatever it is) and then moved from there, fans and then lastly the SSD and GPU. But the cpu never started up as far as I know. I am thinking about just taking it somewhere to get them to diagnose it before I start replacing my mobo/gpu/psu lol. I really am at the point where I don't care about spending the money on a new component I just want my computer to f$%^!n work

Okay so it's not the video card.

You said you replaced the PSU because it was the problem? What was wrong with it? A bad PSU could kill a motherboard. Do you have access to a spare motherboard?

When you start the computer with everything plugged in, can you tell if it's booting to the OS correctly (listen to hard drive and speaker sounds)?

I have not replaced the PSU, but the last time I had issues with my computer yearss ago it wouldn't give any power at all and it was the PSU that got replaced. Now recently, yes I installed just a CPU liquid cooling loop with a 240 Rad and pump and res. I have not tried to see if their is sounds, but I use my SSD for my OS so it doesn't make any noise does it? Going to try turning it on with speakers on and see what happens

Addition: Green light is on under my video card. No sound from speakers at all; although when I do plug it in and/or out I hear the static noise you get out of speakers. No beeping from mobo. This is with everything plugged in except my pump is running off an ext little AC to PSU adapter.

I am almost 100% sure this is the PSU. I have had a few PSU's die on me. They still light up every light, and spin every fan, but can't supply enough juice for anything else.

I think you need to return it, or just get a new one. Sorry mate.

Na, it's not I doubt it... I just put in my old heatsink with fan, the old setup I had, and it didn't do anything same thing happened. So I obviously shorted out my mobo/cpu... I doubt I somehow messed the PSU up since everything is powering up fine from it. Looks like I am going to be getting a new mobo/processor... although that would be nice if it was my PSU, that will be a lot cheaper lol

Only thing that happens, when I press menu is it says, "Test is good." I know it's either my processor/motherboard/and or PSU

going to find out tomorrow when I take it to get diagnosed

I still havn't read anywhere that you tried plugging in a fan to your cpu header. I had the same issue with my first loop since i wasn't using that header my pc wouldn't start until i googled it and they said my mb has a safety feature. You have to have a fan plugged into cpu fan 1 or disable it in bios. So i plugged in an extra fan went into bios and disabled the safety feature now my pc and loop works fine.

Yea I have a fan plugged into cpu1 and still nothing. I also just said that I tried plugging in my old setup, the heatsink with fan so that was plugged into cpu1 and nothing changed. Monitor still blinking with black screen. :*(
