So i bought http://www.staples.com/Logitech-LS21-21-Speaker-System/product_736808?cmArea=REORDER from staples and they are buzzing pretty loud and cant give me a replacement because they are out of stock, does anyone have any suggestions for good computer speakers? they credited my purchase and gave me a coupon so id like to go through staples and they price match amazon and best buy so nearly any supplier will work. id like for them to be a little louder than the ls21-1 and reliability would be nice too
I've done no studies, however, I went through quite a few Altecs, Cyber, and Logitechs in this price range and the passive radiator seems to help the sound or at least extend the bass.
If you're interested in DIY, I'd say spend that coupon on the set with the highest wattage rating, ditch the speakers, exhume the amp/board, go to parts-express.com and find a nicer pair of speakers. Couple that with a box made from a $4 sheet of 1/2" shelving board, maybe some paint, and you've got a decent set.
You won't find full range speakers (or mid/highs with a sub worth it's weight) in that price range, but you could, for another 30-40 grab some mid/high range speakers and cut a box for them and have better SQ.
Altec Lansing must've dropped off the planet or I'd recommend them. Still have a $20 2.0 passive radiator set in the garage that survived 3 years of abuse and still subjected to the occasional pounding for 3+ years... from Staples, too.
I had the Logitech Z313 and they were ok for the price but they broke down after 6 months. Honestly anything in that price range will sound pretty similar. Although when I heard the LS21 in the store, it was terrible so anything is better than those.
