Hey Guys!

I was told that I have a budget of 900.00 USD. I'm slightly over it and i have no clue what to bring down. I'm sticking with Intel and I really love MSI's motherboards, however I know there are some other great brands out there. He's going to have 900 this weekend, and wants to pull the trigger on this build then. However, he can come up with more money. It will just take longer. What would you guys do? It's a pretty solid build. He's planning on starting a new Youtube channel, he's going to be streaming and he will be doing some other basic functions such as Gaming. Anyway, let me know what you think!

Here is the build:

well here is my 2cents. get the CPU + Mobo from microcenter this would shove like 150$... now you are 150 over budget. i don't see a HDD... u have it? i'd also go for a cheaper case.. i'd get a case in the 60$ Budget with sale.. a corsair can hit that pretty much also the define R4 goes on sale a lot for around 70$ .. another 30$ Saved.

For the PSU i would get a XFX Core 550 Off tigerdirect for 45$ after rebate and save those last 90$.. it's basically a seasonic PSU.. i wont put trash in your PC

hi there,

i would definitely try and find a cheaper cpu cooler. You could find a decent one about half the price of the one mentioned. Also, is 120 gigs enough space for someone starting a youtube channel? Have you looked at 30inch monitors? 24inch imo seems small for the mentioned applications. Unless your friend is a hardcore fps player, the keyboard is overkill. I can try to find more exact items if you wish.

I just checked the XFX Core 550 with the OEM database, good call! I will change that up. The HDD is an SSD for 120 GB's. I picked the case I did becaause of the features it offers, I've used it in a previous build and LOVED it. If you find a cheaper case that you've worked with that is as good as the one I listed, I'll take a look at it. I'm always up for change and trying new stuff out. And i'm glad you care about the PSU as much as I do

It's my favorite component, it's important to get a good one!

You mentioned a cheaper CPU cooler for half the price, can you link me? He is purchasing an external HDD for his movies. I'd love to give him a bigger monitor, however it's extremely hard to fit that in a price range like this, he will be getting a second monitor as time continues. We choose mechanical for the feedback and overall usage. They last longer then your gummy keyboards and overall have better performance.

Thanks for the replies.

Id say the same about the keyboard. Unless you absolutely need a mechanical keyboard a regular one would do fine. I picked up my Sidewinder X4 for like 40 bucks.

Thanks for the research! As far as this goes, If I were to go with a contact heatpipe i'd go with a Coolermaster Hyper 212+. We are in the market for some liquid cooling.

I believe we are locked on a mechanical keyboard, I mean. I have a spare razer Anansi laying around, it's a decent keyboard, he could use that. Just gotta clean it up.

Is the Extra 20 bucks worth 3 inches?

I stumbled on the earlier link, but i would say yes. My work monitor is right next to my personal pc....every extra inch is worth it when you mention productivity.

I've worked with G.Skill in the past and it didn't do it for me. It didn't overclock like I wanted it to. I returned it thinking it was a bad stick and it turned out to not be as good as I was wishing it would be. I have not used them in 3 years. If you have a specific model you like. Link me! I'm willing to give it another try. 1600Mhz 8Gb's is the criteria.

What does everyone else think? Do they like this stuff? I've used tihs model before, I actually used the one with the metal, instead of plastic for the heatsink.

I love to try new things, I'm currently running XFX and love them to death. He needs the ability to overclock, that is what really locks it in for future use! Otherwise, your stuck with stock speeds for the most part and you then cannot manipulate the card how you want it to play!

The hyper 212 evo would be a great air cooler. I have an h100i, and its a nice liquid cooler and all but if your not even slightly overclocking there is really no reason to pay a for a liquid cooler.
Also if you not overclocking or don't have any plans to there are other CPUs and motherboards that are much cheaper, different chipsets, and non-K processors. From what you have described, you could go a much cheaper rout if need be. of course there is always "future proofing" if that is what you have in mind. for the most part all the suggestions so gfar have been great. I will see if I can put something together for you here in a bit. im currently at work.

Thanks man! So do you like the Gskill suggestion? he seems to know what he's talking about and I trust most Overclock.net users. I think I might go ahead and bite that .40ACP round and go for it. Overclocking is a must, for future and SCIENCE! Haha
smile.gif
The 212+ has the ability to handle a overclock too. Not like a liquid cooler, however a nice and modest overclock.

I have the 1600 cl9 version of the ripjaws and they're good to me.

Yes. I use Gskill myself and its REALLY good RAM imo. Also the 212 evo is a really good cooler, I have seen other members push a 4.3Ghz overclock with some aftermarket fans on it. so its a decent choice for the price. good luck with the build yo!

Thanks!

Does anyone else have any ideas that are going to make this build even more awesome?!
