To add to what others said, no you dont need the client, but you might want it for the optionally automatic patch updating (also you can play while it downloads) and game file management features. I've never had any reason not to have the client installed and in fact like it for the reasons listed.

I got mine from GoG, but that's because I didn't have a choice lol. Purchased from Green Man and the key was for GoG. First I'd ever heard of them, but so far, very non-intrusive and everything works fine. Don't recall having to install any extra software either really.

My journey is still coming along swimmingly... though my wandering does get me into a fair bit of trouble. Trouble in the form of a giant spider in a deep cave. Going on my own merry way, checking out ? points and I find a cave. Turns out this is for a quest I wasn't tracking about some lost brother. I head into the cave, which actually houses a mine. Neat!

Very dark though... and I hadn't bothered to make Cat yet. Deeper I go, swimming along in parts... spider eggs. cryingsmiley.gif I don't like where this is going. Ok, burn the eggs, phew, done. Deeper, and deeper... yay!

Found the brother... kinda. So I takes a look around, I've got company. Ack, a gaggle of spiders, and something BIG in the corner... wha-smiley.png Apparently Mama doesn't like me burning her babies... ok, I can handle this... duck and weave, strike!... duck and weave, strike!... all I've inflicted on her is an irritation in her backside. So, since I'm not deserving of her time she just spits on me... and it BURNS... gulp down some Golden Oriole and RUN! sonic.gif

I scramble my sorry butt back outside, leaving Mama Spider to her sorrows. I'll have to visit her when i'm all grown up... so lets check out when I should have visited her. Pop a squat on a stump and open up my journal here... ok... and there... oh, that explains it. So, apparently I'm supposed to be level 33 before attempting this. Yeah, I'm level 9... thumb.gif

Bonus points for surviving! I'd like to say lesson learned, but the only lesson I learned is that spiders are scary skull.gif

I don't even slash insectoids with my blade, they burn like crazy. lvl 9 is pretty low for lvl 33 mosters, but it's possible if you got a good plan. there's a griffin set to craft at lvl 11 but this arachas will still kill you in one hit. You may be able to get it to burn but only with firestream skill, normal igni attack won't harm it, not by much anyway.

what decoctions have you brewed already ?

there's arachas decoction which would reduce your damage in half if you use light armor and empty your inventory.
unfortunately, to brew it you nedd to kill an arachas first biggrin.gif anyway, I suggest investing into alchemy, the whole second row of alchemy skills is extremely useful. 25% vitality regeneration when drinking any potion, 25% protection when you use blade oils, 50% vitality increase when you overdose potions (place some food in one of the keys assigned to potions so you make sure it doesn't drain your health though). You should be able to brew the griffin decoction, use the protective coating skill and craft the griffin armor soon. use them all and you'll see the damage you'll be receiving will decrease dramatically.

Beware, if you try it and see stuttering, that you overclocked it too far and its skipping frames.

I just play on 60hz.

so do i but i get stuttery fps in parts of the game..allways in novigrad. no way around it. dunno why. i just gave up and play it like this. its not that bad. everything on max but foliage distance i leave on high..that on ultra causes more stutter in everywere of the game. at 1440p using my custom reshader that makes the game look awsome:)

Quick question: to play new DLCs do you need to start a new game plus? Is it recommended to start a new game plus to play the DLCs?

you can start both HoS and B&W as independent games. Your character will be adjusted to play it.
if you wanna do this while you're playing your base game campaign remember to save it to a manual save slot.
