That was the claim by CDPR, not players. 44 hrs for B&W/HoS for me, like I said, explored everything and everywhere, no rushing. For the DLC's to take longer than that, Gerald would literally have to walk from mission to mission.

EDIT
Correction, players in this thread said HoS was about 10 hrs, CDPR said B&W was 30 hrs

I left no stone unturned except I didn't do the gwent missions and the races in any part of the game.

Interesting though, I started the expansions around the 190hr mark and I'm sitting at 234 hrs after both DLC expansions.

I also listen to and read all the conversations. I read all the books, notes, and treasure hunt sheets. There are tons of easter eggs in everything.

Perhaps maybe 5-10 hours of my extra time was grabbing and crafting the lower level armor sets. I crafted everything to mastercrafted, also, which took alot of time. I did all gwent quests, collected every card.

Honestly, there is no right or wrong way to play it, no right or wrong amount of time. Just as in this game, there is no right or wrong, there is decision A, and decision B.

But then again a lot is skippable content. I mean you walk around some vineyard and all of a sudden there's spiders or spores or centipedes. AGAIN? Can't I just move on to a different part of the map in peace?

If anyone remembers the archespores in TW1, you will know that no, you cannot escape them - they are all over you, all the time.

Well, finally hit my first "wall" in Death March. I have played through the entire game up until "final preparations" And before I continue on in the main story, as a Level 33, I wanted to go up to level 34 and wear some sweet mastercrafted Ursine Armor. I am completely a swords build, wearing L30 Wolven Armor with L30 Ursine Swords. I have basically gone deathless against all comers, except my first try on Ifirit.

Now, though...
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
I went into to HoS first story mission to get that last bit of XP to get Level 34. After dispatching those drowners in the sewers, I am struggling with frog prince. I have probably had him to less than 1/3 about 3 times, and each time he gets me with a random tongue slap or a stomp. I am circle strafing, using superior cursed oil, superior thunderbolt, and only attacking when I have an opening, and only attacking once. Since I have 3 greater Devana runestones, I am applying bleeds to this guy.

I am considering taking some decoctions - Ekidna and Archgriffin, but I think Ill have to load an earlier save to find ingredients. I also have about 100 silver bolts to use in my Ursine Crossbow. Thinking of taking decoctions, using crossbow in combo with a few attacks to proc the decoction bonuses. But Man, I have never fought an enemy this tough in the witcher. Much tougher than Ifirit.

I am used to dark souls type boss fights, so this hasnt even remotely gotten me discouraged. I have so many weapons at my disposal, I just am shocked by the extreme ramp up in difficulty with this first monster of the expansion. Especially since I am level 33 with best in slot gear for this level! [/spoiler

Edit: Got him! just used some bombs!

Personally, I'm in the middle of HoS now and stuck on a fight. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
The Iris's Greatest Fear fight where you have to kill 6 Oligards in Silent Hill Cosplay. I get through 4 of them easily, but when they start parrying I hit a wall. I can usually get a few hits on them before I slip up and die. One time I saw him kneel over and I was able to whirrl the **** out of him for a few seconds before he got up, but then I would up dying like 4 mins later without seeing him do it again. Looks like the key is to get him to do that kneeling over thing, but I haven't figured out how to get him to do that. Anyone know?

just get good protection from slashing damage and you'll kick his (their) ass. undvik armor + levity enchmantment + arachas decoction + griffin decoction + protective coating and he'll never kill you. use a combination of fast/strong strikes and axii/yrden/aard.
personally for foes like iris greatest fear and higher vampires (bruxa/alp), which move in immaterial form and strike very quickly, I love using alternative yrden mode + entanglement enchantment. you'd be able to strip them of their greatest advantage this way.

Is anyone using DNA Extreme mod with SLI and G-Sync? Thinking of going SLI because it looks gorgeous but murdered my fps to mid 40s at 1440p whereas without mod I get around 60s.

I'm at 70 hours and just now finished the whole "ugly baby" quest ... where Yen breaks the curse on Uma ("the ugliest man alive" ... *****) ...

How much of the game is left after this? I'm so dreading the game ending ... LOL ... been doing lots of contracts and side quests ...
