According to our sources, NVIDIA will officially announce GeForce GTX 880 somewhere mid-September. NVIDIA is planning a big event for all major press members from around the world. Prepare for boring Maxwell architecture presentation, live streaming, new hardware and smiling Jen-Hsun explaining why you should buy GSYNC monitor and SHIELD tablet.
Of course this live event will only be a paper launch. Cards are expected to hit stores shortly after (late September)
Sweclockers are also on the article who only forward reliable information which means they are also informed by a September release but just want to quote someone else without braking NDA
From manufacturers perspective, GeForce GTX 880 is using very similar board design to GTX 770. GeForce GTX 880 is of course 780 successor, but it has more similarities to GTX 770 than GTX 780.
The difference between GTX 880 and GTX 770 boards is cosmetic. Thus, GM204 is basically a GK104 replacement. However, just because it's a mid-range GPU replacement, It does not mean it will be slower than some GK110 cards. We do not know how fast GTX 880 is going to be, but it's safe to assume it will sit above 780 and maybe even 780 Ti.
I'm sure it'll be faster. the new 560ti was faster than the 580 by a big margin. it was so uch faster they sold it as the 580's replacement. and it sold like crazy.
So when we going to see the replacement of GK110?
I am pretty happy with my gtx780 in sli but I am looking forward to get this new Asus Swift but to run it on 100% potential I need some extra horsepower to have stable 100-120fps. Is there any performance gain in Tri-Sli? TNX!

If they follow a similar timeline as last time (GTX680>Titan), you are looking at something like 11+ months. Hopefully we won't see this and we get a true GK110 replacement in February/March of next year. At least that's what I am planing for. That will put my GTX780 about 18 months old.

Yeah. Just a little. That said, given that this isn't actually looking like a real upgrade over GK110, I do not regret getting my 670 before we got more details. GDDR5 is at its maximum speeds and the bus was shrunk, and even if it does improve over GK110, it's going to be bandwidth-limited at higher resolutions be it screen or texture.

That won't make a difference although some non reference cards of the GTX 880 might come with 8GB. It seems rather odd though that nvidia would release a new "flagship" at this point with at least 6 months until their next launch with only 4GB as it's far too limiting.

Actually, aside from the clickbait at the top, I got an email about this today.
Yesterday it was October/November...Today it's September/October.
I believe they'll release it earlier due to their Q4 projections but, you can never be too sure...I guess it really depends on how their Q3 goes because steady sales will follow through Q4 into Q1 2015 so, who knows really.
There's still Nvidia making a big thing out of Gamescom. Maybe it's just a "we'll be there!" thing, but the timing is at least plausible for some sort of news.

That's probably to do with shield and not video cards.
