Large banks are more useful than before (at the high end they restore several times the shield strength that they used to), though the only ship that can get away with using even a single relatively powerful SCB, without also dumping a heatsink, is the FDL.

SCB heat appears multiplicative rather than additive, so pretty much any worthwhile tandem charge (I normally run an A5+A4 SCB on my FDL) needs at least one heatsink, and I've used twin 7B setups with my Corvette that take two heatsinks (staggered) per SCB press, unless I want to gut my ship with module damage.

Sorry about the double post. You posted right before I did and I can't figure out mobile very well.

There are other chats, but you have to meet a person before you can use them. Direct chat is only visible to the person you send it to and works across the galaxy, wing chat lets you communicate with everyone in your wing across the galaxy.

Also make sure you're in open. The starting systems should be pretty busy with real people. A real person will have a hollow marker on your radar while an NPC will be solid.

How do I talk to someone I'm targeting? How do I join a wing?

Take your time. ED takes weeks to learn, months to play and years to master.

I would ignore the missions until you can get around without dieing.

Always have AT MINIMUM the cash reserve to pay your insurance cost.

Things to remember:
The game has been called shallow, but wide. In truth it is a deep as you make it. Develop your character and allow him / her to have a story.
You can't reset the game - blowing up has permanent consequences.
Some people pursue cash, other the best experience. Do what you enjoy.
Choose a medium term goal. Do what you have to to get there.
Playing in Solo mode is fine for a while, but Open is a better experience.... and riskier.

What should I do to make my first money? I havnt been able to complete a mission yet. I have a hard time telling where to go. Like if I need to kill someone it will tell me the galaxy but just says their in "space". How do I find them?

Sorry if this sounds crass, but it's been a while since I've played in a wing, but there are official youtube videos that Frontier has put out there to show you how wing and communication functionality works.

I would start off at a Nav Beacon which can normally be found near a system's main star (sun). There you can scan ships to see if their wanted. After scanning/ targeting is completed and only after the process is completed, you can attack them and trade in their bounties for credits at the nearest station after you've made your kill.

If you don't allow the scan to complete and you attack them, the system authorities will come after you.

These bounties will stack, so you don't have to go back to the station every time you collect a single bounty. If you die and you have bounties that you haven't turned in yet, those bounties will be wiped from your transactions tab/ pane and you will not be able to turn them in.

EDIT for Youtube link:

I am getting it today.

DO I need to purchase anything else? Or will the base game keep me happy.

Base game doesn't come with planetary landings/ planetary exploration. Horizons, however, does include it and apparently "Much, much more". I'm still not sure if Horizons includes the base game, but that is the first expansion. Anyone know for sure?

The base game no longer really gets full content updates. Horizons is the full game and every single update until 3.0 late this year or early next. It's basically the game plus a year long season pass.

Next season (one after horizons) will be a pass for all of 2017, and will also cost about the same amount. If you buy the base game now and an expansion pass in 5 years you'll get all updates to that point. Horizons and the base game will continue to get security updates and some content updates (likely most ships won't be version dependent) but won't get stuff like atmospheric landing and other stuff.

OH.

MY.

GOD.....

How utterly awesome is the Clipper????

I pledged to Denton Patreus just before the deadline yesterday and spent several hours earning 90 credits delivering military arms

But that's for chumps!

I just jumped into a military incursion and got 300 credits in about 20 minutes.

By my calculations about 8 or 9 hours of that will put me at rank 5 next week! (50 million credit paycheck)

AND - it was the best experience I have had in ED. Non-stop action.

The only downsides to the clipper are it's a bit low on energy and the fuel tank is pitifully small.
