Official Factorio Website

What is Factorio?

From the Official Website:
Quote:
Factorio is a game in which you build and maintain factories.

You will be mining resources, researching technologies, building infrastructure, automating production and fighting enemies. Use your imagination to design your factory, combine simple elements into ingenious structures, apply management skills to keep it working and finally protect it from the creatures who don't really like you.
The Wikipedia says:
Quote:
The game is a mix of Action video game and Realtime strategy game video game that resembles in some way Minecraft. The player's character has to look for resources to build machines that help him survive. Some resources have to be turned into more advanced materials before they can be used. The player has to build a working factory. This factory allows him to create new items and more developed machines. There is also a surviving element as the player can come across enemy creatures. He can defend himself with weapons. There are also goals in every level that player has to achieve.
(OP: Someone please re-write this.)

Where do I buy this game?
At the moment the only place to get it is the official website. There are a few purchase tiers, with the cheapest (just access to the alpha and all future updates) being US$17.

  • Yet another game in alpha?
Yes. However Factorio has a LOT of content already and is reportedly very stable. Many people have spend tens of hours in it already.
  • When will the game be finished?
We aim to have the 1.0 version in summer 2015. If there is intereset, we might continue the development afterwards.
  • Are you guys on Steam or Greenlight?
Not yet. We plan to further improve the game and try to get on steam in the 2015.
  • If I buy the game now will I be able to get a Steam key?
Yes, if we get on Steam you will have a choice whether to "own" the game at our website or on Steam.
  • Ok, how do I get this game then?
You buy one of our memberships. This is a ONE TIME payment only. You get the game immediately and ALL the updates in the future.
  • How do I pay for the game?
You can use Paypal, international credit cards (Visa / Visa Electron / Mastercard), Bitcoins or Paysafecard. That is it for now.
  • I came across problems while buying the game, what to do?
We are sorry for your troubles. Check out our Troubleshooting & Help page.
  • Which tier should I buy?
If you want just the game then buy the first one. If you want to support us and get some extra stuff go for the higher one.
  • Can I buy lower tier now and upgrade later?
Yes. You can also buy the game as a gift for your friends.
  • Why should I bother to buy now, when I can just wait for the 1.0 release / game coming on Steam?
The game is cheaper now. Also you get to see how the game evolves and improves over time.
  • I'm a youtuber/streamer. Can I make videos about Factorio?
Of course you can. Check out our Press page for more details.
  • I found a bug / have a problem with the game. Where to report it?
We are sorry for the inconvenience. Check out our Troubleshooting & Help page for what to do.
  • Where is the multiplayer?
    We are working on it.

Note that can continue to cascade like this to get desired ratio, but only to powers of two, though you can add lanes together to get odd ratios. This can be extremely useful for peeling off of a main line into a feeder that only needs a portion of the product.

This thread needs a bump.

Amazing game. Best indie game i played since Path Of Exile. And there is still so much potential left. Modular tanks is one of the many things i would like added to the game.

Warning though, this game sucks up your time like crazy. There are so much things you constantly do in the game that you forget about everything else:
-Hmm let's take a break
-Oh wait, there is not enough copper produced
-Let's build some more furnaces
-Oh wait, there is not enough raw ore
-Let's build some more miners
-Hey, why are my miners moving so slowely? Damn not enough power
-Let's build some more steam engines, solar panels and accumulators
-....
-5 hours later: wasn't i going to take a break?

Anyone knows a way to load balance red belts (without using blue belts for the corners)? I have the problem in my factory where the furnaces at the end of the line don't have space in the belt because everything is put on one side by the previous inserters, while the other side of the belt still has some space.

Bumping this thread as it was recently released on Steam in Early Access. It is currently the highest rated game in Steam overall with a 99% positive rating.

Should I create a new thread with updated information? Tempted to create one in the Video Game News section.

Just bought this, as I really like this type of game (micro manage but not farmville), love it

I can't help making a jungle just to complete simple tasks though, although I'm sure I'll get the hang of it with a bit of experience

Just bought this game two nights ago. Decided to casually give it a go but ended up playing the game until 5AM in the morning despite it felt like an hour has passed in the game.
I'm truly impressed! This game is literally OCD heaven for those that go completely ape**** over figuring out the best/optimized manufacturing layout and material flow/logistics. Literally spent hours revising my factory to meet new tech I keep researching. Fun as heck, probably the best 20 dollars spent this year on a game!

I fully agree with you, first night I played I didn't sleep at all, went to work the next day completely wrecked.
OCD heaven is a perfect description of this game (I'll post some screenshots of my setup tonight and you will see a decent example of this, haha)

Something about this game is doing my head in though. Time flies by insanely fast, and I feel like I'm enjoying the game, but when I stop, I feel strained. I'm not sure if maybe my eyesight is starting to go, or it's the 8-bit graphics, combined with the day-to-night transition, combined with being able to zoom out so far, I don't feel like I can relax and play this game, which is the primary reason why I play games - to relax.

Anyway, it's a great game, still got a few bugs to iron out before commercial release, but the beta is still great.

I highly recommend at least checking this game out, if you played Railroad Tycoon (released in the 1990's) back in the day, or other tycoon games, and enjoyed them, you should feel right at home with this. It's basically railroad tycoon on steroids combined with minecraft

The only thing I have to say that is negative about the game is that the enemy is far too easy to destroy, just drop down a power pole, surround with laser turrets and push forward into the alien base with a few of these. Takes very little skill and any size base is easily and quickly wiped out with no risk of dying.

I've yet to meet someone who didn't like this game that knew what they were buying.

I've truly fallen in love with this game and have even taken the time to write some mods for it (for personal use.) It's amazing game and I keep getting in over my head but keep getting further and further with more and more organization.

You should check out this guide to taking larger screenshots so you don't have to piece 20 shots together.

Also, when using commands in the "~" menu, use /c before them.

I just learned about this game earlier today, it looks interesting and super fun. I think I will at least pick up the demo later this evening and check it out! How is everyone else liking it so far, I have heard nothing but great things about this game so far.

Forget the DEMO. Just jump straight in. 20$ is nothing compared to the possiblities. Excellent Game.

A+

I played through the demo and loved it so I picked up the $20 copy on Steam. So far I love this game, have just owned it over a week and already 60+ hours in.

I am having trouble getting a consistent line of vials of red and green to the lab without something slowing the process. Once I perfect that, I will be johnny ho for the Blue Liquid and Oil and Gas.

The more ingredients the harder it is to make everything come together, that is for sure. My biggest obstacle so far was petroleum not having enough pressure at a certain point in my pipes. Once the refinery fills up a storage of any of the oils it stops producing everything, regardless of your needs for another product.

I used 2 Oil Refineries. Split all pipes to there location. Each chem plant had 2 pipes from each Refinery. I then set up a handler at each outlet. One Chem plant was using Petroleum to make plastic. The other refineries were just boxing the yellow and red.

I just ended up using more storage tanks for oils I used less of, then whenever I needed an oil split off from my main line, I would add another tank with pumps set to keep at least 100 gallons in the tank before extracting any oil to the process or put back in the main line.
