Can anyone confirm that?

Cheers

Any teaser pics ?

I know its early but I'm sure you can give us an estimated price point. Something within $50 shouldn't be too hard?

We understand the curiosity at this point, but please understand we are in the VERY early prototyping phase. We don't even know all of the features yet. Please allow us to release information at our own accord. Like Jim said we will have more info at the end of this month so everyone please be patient, thanks!

It should be less than 15L hopefully or around that. Any bigger and you'll still have the "its not a true itx case" fans frowning upon it.

lol. I wasn't expecting an answer really. I'm just so excited about this case that I can't wait to hear anything. Thanks!

As I said earlier, it's to early to speculate much. We anxious too, so we'll let you know as soon as the details firm up.

The only thing I will say is that we're not in the SFF business and we don't intend to be (neither is Corsair, Bitfenix, etc.). I know there are people out the who want the smallest build possible and that's great if that's what they want, but it severely limits their hardware and build options. That's not what we're about. It may be nice to have a small build and there is a lot of craftsmanship that goes into something like that, so I can certainly appreciate it. It's next to impossible to get optimum performance from it though. Looking at it another way, imagine putting skinny 70 series tires on a 600 HP Corvette. Will the car go fast? Yes. Will you get all the performance the car is capable of? Nope.

As much as I would love a budget friendly CaseLabs case it would mean customer service and quality would more than likely drop. I've owned: InWin, Corsair, Phanteks, SilverStone, CaseLabes, NZXT and soon Parvum cases and I can say without a doubt CaseLabs is the best. I will pay the premium for top notch.

I like my S3. The perfect size IMO for a powerful PC without going nuts.
I can see the X2 in my living room as a steam box / HTPC.

It's that group who think spending hours fitting their PC into a shoebox deserves an award, that will rage about it not being smaller.

I hope CL never makes a steel or steel/alum mix case.
I think $150 is reasonable enough to introduce people to the brand. Just save and that person can have something nice.

It takes just as much effort to develop a cheap case as it does an expensive case. So I prefer CL stick with quality cases.

I don't doubt it, but college isn't exactly cheap.
Eat lots of ramen. That's what I've done to afford my gear. I'm about to finish my internship, paid 30k for two years of tuition to get my associates and becomea vet tech. Trust me, I know what college costs, Lol.

As far as "budget" goes. We'd be cheating our brand and our customers to release a plastic and steel chassis. There's plenty of them in the market. We aim to be the name of choice for enthusiasts. Yes, the market isn't as big, but we keep all of our materials and labor here in the United States. We have employees who are paid living wages, and we're not at the mercy of fabrication plants overseas.

While I know there are people who would love for us to design, say, a full ATX chassis under 200, to be honest, the aluminum and paint alone on our chassis are reaching that cost. It's just not feasible to produce a quality case at that cost. We could do it with steel and plastic, but then we'd be the same as many others in our industry, and honestly, it wouldn't make us special anymore.

I just disagree, how many companies are on forums talking to customers like this? Offer me a 200$ steel caselabs with XL Windows and im sure a lot of us peasants would buy them up after some saving lol. Caselabs has best customer service and best quality and obviously qc , you would reach a whole new level of customers. It would make you special to a lot of new people.

I see where you're coming from, and I understand you too. We're here talking to people because we care about the input we receive. To be honest, I'm not sure Jim would ever consider a steel chassis. I don't know if our machinery and tooling equipment is capable of handling steel. I know for sure that plastic would be out of the question, as it would require a while new set of equipment for molds and what have you. That's a lot of money and not something I think Jim would ever invest in. Additionally, steel is MUCH heavier than aluminum. Cases the same size as ours made from steel are typically twice add heavy. So, there's lots of details such as that to consider.

What I do know for sure, is that feedback from people on forums and at events like PDXLAN helps shape what we do and offer. So if you have ideas, please share them like you have.

Also, I make a mean bowl of top ramen.

Why would you want a steel case over aluminum?
headscratch.gif
steel may be cheaper but its way to heavy when you start talking about serious gear like watercooling, I dont even want to imagine how much my old HAF X would weigh if I chucked my current gear in it
eek.gif
, I'd personally spend an extra $100+ on an aluminum case any day of the week

I'm excited to see what you guys come up with for this new X2, if its smaller then the S3 I'll be buying it for my Beasty Linux Box regardless of the price

All kidding aside, most people can afford few luxuries while they're going to school (I know I couldn't). Of course, that's one of the reasons you're there, right?

To be get a better job so you can have some of the better things in life. While we could make a case made of steel and plastic, it wouldn't be what it is now. Focus on your education, that's the most important thing. We'll be here when you're ready

Just to point out how awesome Jim is as a person and as a boss, he's told me this same thing many times while I've gone through tough times during my schooling, especially during finals weeks. How many people can say that their boss is more concerned about their education than work? Not many. Jim's wisdom and kindness have gotten me through a lot of tough times.

Super excited about this case. I was very close to getting an S3 last year, but ultimately went with the Compact Splash because of how small it was and because of it's exclusivity.
biggrin.gif
I would love to pick up a Case Labs for my next build though.

After you guys finish the X2 , do you think you will ever go for a different designs with the exterior of your cases?

What did you have in mind? We'll probably never go got the space age look, but let us know if you have ideas.
