Thanks. I will be painting the interior, and using veneer on the outside pieces. I'm not sure what I'll be using for finish yet, as I'll have to do some experimenting with whichever veneer I end up going with

If you have access to some birds eye maple, that'd look killer with a "not too dark" stain. When I was working at a hardware store, our cheap wooden brooms had birds eye maple handles wth.gif

GL veneer is my go to for veneers. i like Walnut w/ clear finish personally. the ebony-rcn is very nice too and not expensive(the real ebony is very expensive). i am so looking forawrd to seeing the finished product now matter what veneer you decide on. Wood is good.

When I was building my workbench, and it came time to make the bench dogs, I ordered some 3/4" hard maple dowel. When they arrived, one of the 3 was really curly maple. I ended up using some of it for the beam in a guitar themed marking gauge for a marking gauge swap that we did on the woodworking site I participate on

Thanks for the link. So far all the veneer I've gotten has either been at Woodcraft or Rockler walk in stores, or at VeneerSupplies.com. I like being able to see the exact pieces I'm buying before I buy. I'll certainly be checking out the link you shared.

I've got some Curly Quartersawn Sapele, and some Quilted Bubinga. I think I've decided to go with the Sapele for the main chassis, and oak with a really dark stain, or ebonizing, on the base...

i really like sepele to. can't wait to see it nice and shiny.

And… time for another update. This one considerably more substantial than the last one. Making the removable panel assembly.

Mini_Watercooled_HTPC_modsquito_wood_scratch_build_DSC02451-W640.JPG

Lots of clamps… gluing a piece to the edge of what will be the front edge of the side panel

Mini_Watercooled_HTPC_modsquito_wood_scratch_build_DSC02452-W640.JPG

After that, and before I got too far, I cut out the hole for the window.

Mini_Watercooled_HTPC_modsquito_wood_scratch_build_DSC02453-W640.JPG

Adding some more pieces to help with alignment when it goes on the case, and to help the rigidity a little.

Mini_Watercooled_HTPC_modsquito_wood_scratch_build_DSC02454-W640.JPG

This should give a nice view of the hardware once it’s done.

Mini_Watercooled_HTPC_modsquito_wood_scratch_build_DSC02455-W640.JPG

Cut a piece for the top panel, and cut a hole in it for the fan intake. I will eventually put mesh here too. Yes, it took a few trials at the layout lines before I was happy with the size.

Mini_Watercooled_HTPC_modsquito_wood_scratch_build_DSC02458-W640.JPG

I glued the top panel on to the side panel, as the side, front, and top will be one removable piece. It makes things a lot easier.

Mini_Watercooled_HTPC_modsquito_wood_scratch_build_DSC02459-W640.JPG

Added another bracing/gluing piece to the front

Mini_Watercooled_HTPC_modsquito_wood_scratch_build_DSC02483-W640.JPG

Finally I glued the front piece on. I used a few nails to keep things aligned while I clamped it up, but then removed them once the clamps were in place.

Mini_Watercooled_HTPC_modsquito_wood_scratch_build_DSC02484-W640.JPG

Another piece to help keep the top from flexing.

Mini_Watercooled_HTPC_modsquito_wood_scratch_build_DSC02485-W640.JPG

Added a piece to the bottom of the front panel (inside) with two (2) dowels in it. These go into holes drilled in the base, and keeps things from moving around when in place.

Mini_Watercooled_HTPC_modsquito_wood_scratch_build_DSC02486-W640.JPG

And here we have it; the completed side/top/front panel assembly. I still need to add mesh and a window, but that will be one of the last things that gets added.

I set it on a few scraps on the base, to get the idea of what it’ll look like.

Thanks, as always, for checking it out and any comments smile.gif
