All I can say is that Last Light Redux is far less optimized in regards to Draw Calls. Take the start menu for example: In the original I get over 120fps (Very High without SSAA and PhysX) whereas in Redux I get I think 85fps and that even though there is hardly any visual difference (3970X @5GHz and 2x7970).

It's not. 2033 redux is awesome though. Last light original is better on PC.

I am about to finish Metro 2033 - Redux and I have to say I am having a blast playing the game! I never played the original Metro 2033, but I did beat the original Metro - Last Light. The 2033 Redux is most awesome with truly excellent optimization and perfect combination of HD graphics and art that support each other to produce a high quality image. What I mean by that is that you can achieve an awesome picture by pushing details, polygons, texture resolution, etc., but that can lower your performance greatly. However, you can improve the image through art itself. For example, very high resolution textures can often look worse from far away than lower resolution textures. Metro 2033 - Redux considers that and uses that perfect (yeah-yeah, nothing is truly perfect, but whateva!) texture resolution that considers the distance at which you're going to view them as you venture into the dark spooky metro tunnels or the post-nuclear outside. Another example is that developers managed to produce such great graphics and art without using a ton of alpha palette and transparent textures that create intensive aliasing and aliasing shimmering. There a few cases, but mostly the game looks clean, pristine and aliasing-free if you use the game's own AA or add one, such as and/or add SweetFX SMAA to further reduce aliasing. I disabled in-game AA through config file (I think I did...) and forced nVidia FXAA instead, which I think is superior.

I am running the game @ 1080p @ max settings with 2x SSAA + SweetFX SMAA + nVidia FXAA and I get over 80-150fps+80% of the time, but in some places it dips into 60's and at times even sub-60fps. Again, I use 2x SSAA and maintain such excellent framerate anyway, but without SSAA, framerate stays at 100fps+ 99% of the time on my rig. This shows just what PC's are capable of with good coding skills. I just wonder how much better Assassin's Creed: Unity would run if it was developed by Metro 2033 - Redux team. I bet framerate would be up by good 30-50% and people wouldn't look as bland as they do now in AC:U.

The worst thing about this game is that it does not properly support Windowed Borderless Gaming / FullScreenizer tools and does not have the Borderless Windowed mode of its own. The problem is that there is always a thick (15-20pixels) corrupted bottom border that acts like as a distorted glass when you turn off FullScreen in the game's config file. It was very annoying and I was unable to remove it, but the game still looked stunning and played well even with that issue. The same exact issue affects Last Light - Redux and it was also present in the original Last Light game.

Another issue I encountered by my own stupidity is not figuring out how to recharge flash-light/night-vision and re-pump some guns. I just didn't enable Tips because I thought I knew it all. This caused me to keep thinking "Why the hell is my flashlight so dim while others' is so much brighter? Why the hell is Night Vision not working? Stupid game bug!"

Overall, I would give this game 9/10 rating with 1 point taken off for the thick bottom distored-glass border in windowed borderless mode.

P.S. The game does not sound very authentic in English. It should be played in Russian-only!!! biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif I absolutely love it how more and more games come out with Russian audio, making me feel home!

Freakin' LOVE the Metro games. Owned both originals and bought both Redux titles to support 4A - they make quality stuff.

2033 Redux was sooo worth it. I'm dying for some information on a new Metro title!

Didn't 4A close down?

I do agree the Metro games were great - I never played 2033 though, only Last Light,
