Well, sad news for HTPC users, gigabyte isnt offering any fan control software anymore.

On the entire z97 lineup, no matter how much do you paid for a premium MB, there is no custom fan control support.

Just the basic on bios.

Giabyte now offer "system viewer information (SIV)", a fan control tool that changes speed on the fly and doesnt save changes. You have to set fan the curves every time your computer restart**

If you are using z87, you could try an older version of easytune. Olders builds wont start on z97 lineup. And newer has no fan options.

**UPDATED: gigabyte left hidden a way to make SIV remember settings:

- Go to Smart Fan Auto and set it to Performance mode. (Not Standard, Full Speed or Quiet)

- Calibrate

- Go to Smart Fan Advanced to adjust curve.

- Must press "Apply" after adjustment.

- Restart and enter SIV to see the changes if it took effect

- Restart Again

UPDATE 2: The solution provided works only for a few restarts. Then you have to set all the curves again.. to make it work for a few more times.. to the point that it will stop working after just one restart...

Well, easytune lost fan support before fixing blue screens, so it´s not usable for most users.

On z97 you only have basic fan options, no curve, fan start at an arbitrary rpm..

So, there is no way to have a silent system atm.

Im just warning users.

If anyone need full control of their fans, check speedfan support before jumping to giga z97.

The point is... why they removed features?

Why you need an external fan controller because they decided to stop their software that is advertised on every box?

I hate when companies p**s customers, don´t care if it´s gigabyte, or any other manufacturer.

If I buy gigabyte, it´s not because of hate precisely.

I think it moved into a different program instead of being in EasyTune. Look at that System Information Viewer or whatever it's called.

Well... it could be a big deal for other people. I had a gb z87 perfect silent system. Helped gigabyte reporting every problem of easytune (they had a lot).

And after "upgrading" to a gb z97, with the same other components, I got less features than before.

@deepor, they moved fan control to SIV (system info viewer), but now it wont save settings, you need to open siv every time your computer restarts, and set every fan curve again. So, it´s useless.

I asked gb why they removed the option to save fan curve settings, and they told me... "it´s just the way it is"

I don´t know how can I be a hater, Im using gb motherboards since z77/fm1...

I don't think it is suppose to be like that. At least not saving settings part. Did you try to report that as a bug? Otherwise, it's a useless software if it doesn't even remember its settings after a reboot. As a work around, "silent" setting in the BIOS should get you nearly what you want although not too much customization.

Silent on bios was an option, but with a 2800rpm cpu fan... silent starts at 1300rpm.. a pain in the...

Yes... I´d reported thinking was a bug or they didnt have time to add a save option... and they told me this...

Question: Hi again, are you serious? Whats the point of fan control without an option to conserve settings? Please add this option. It's not so difficult, easytune had it. Thanks.

Answer: Unfortuantely this is the design as it's on the fly.

Unbelievable..

After telling I´ll spread that decision on every forum, they told me the truth and a trick to make SIV remember your settings.

I´ll edit first post.

Don´t know if it was a marketing decision to sold it later as a new feature... or to sell fan controllers...

Well, Im happy and SILENT gigabyte user again

Well.. the solution provided works when it wants. After 3 or 4 restarts, fan are back to normal speed and you have to set every curve again.. to make it work.. for 3 or 4 times.. lol.

Not a real solution.

If anyone has some spare time, please report this problem to gigabyte.

How?

By the way, also use the official support thread here.

ATM Im using a z97 gaming 5.

But problem is on software side.

Leave the pc on 24/7? Sorry, I care a little about being green (and im the one who pay the bill

). Buy a fan controller? fan controllers work by temperature? they fit on htpc cases? I guess they dont.

The simply solution is on gigabyte side.

Let´s see if future SIV builds correct this...

Some fan controller can use system temperatures. Like Lamptron CM615, NZXT Grid+, and other similar USB connected products.

I personally try to remove all functionality from the motherboard that can be done with external means (audio, fan control). This makes further motherboard purchase much less demanding (i.e. I only look at VRM, price, whether I need 3/4-way SLI, and looks) and cheaper in the long run.

Still the board advertises fan control, so it should have been done properly.

This is my point. Or at least Gigabyte should cooperate with thrid party software markers (SpeedFan) to allow them to control fans properly. The latest version of Speedfan seems to work fine with some Asus Z97 boards but not yet with Gigabyte z97 because the author does not have the datasheet of the controller...

Yep... they only need to respect what they show as a feature.

I'd reported the SIV problems again. It's a pain to deal with giga customer support. They ask for questions I cant answer.. "how many days takes the system to forget the settings?" I dont know... how can I predict such an unstable software?

Check the source code, it's your software!

About that "the system forgets the settings" issue, shouldn't that be the fault of the BIOS? I thought you (want to) run it without any software getting loaded at Windows start-up, right?

I'm imagining there's the chip on the board that gets the sensor input and then controls the fans and it has some default rules for that. When you turn on the machine and the board starts to boot, the BIOS has your fan control scheme saved somewhere and writes it into that chip. When it eventually stops working right after a few days, the BIOS for some reason forgot the settings and goes back to the default ones.

If it works like that, what you need isn't just a new SIV version, you also need a new BIOS.

Hi, I think it´s just a SIV problem. For SIV fan control, you need to let fan settings in bios set to "normal", which is what bios default comes with.

SIV is loaded at windows startup (there is no option to set that on siv, but looks like it´s done by default), even a gigabyte process is loaded at windows startup (maybe this is the responsible for applying fan settings), but I´d checked this process and always starts fine, even when the settings are forgiven.

Also, there is a fan profile 1, 2, 3, 4 xml on SIV folder, which are modified every time you edit fan curves, I´d tried to set this files as read only... but didnt help. SIV it´s just ignoring this files when it wants.

I just bought a Gigabyte X99-Gaming G1 and am having difficulty controlling my fan speeds on a Corsair H110 cooler. I can't get Smart Fan Advanced to allow my CPU fans to go below about 725RPM, which is far too noisy and unnecessary for idle workloads. The 1400MM radiator fans are plugged into the CPU_FAN header, while the pump is plugged into CPU_OPT header.

Does anybody know how to get the proper fan speed to stick? You can see that I chose 100RPM, but it always goes to 726RPM after I hit apply. It's driving me nuts!! Here's a screenshot of my SIV/Smart Fan Advanced:

That should be exactly what your fans do when they get a 0% PWM signal sent, those 700 RPM being their minimum speed. What you can try to do to force them to go even slower is using voltage control instead of PWM. It's very likely that you can do that in the BIOS. If it works, switching it over means that the board will send a 100% PWM signal on the PWM pin (that's pin number four), and will instead regulate the voltage on the 12V pin (that's pin number two).

On voltage control, your fans will run as if they were three-pin fans instead of PWM four-pin fans. When you set 0% speed in the software, the board will send the fan 0V and the fan will be off. For 100% it will be 12V. You will need to find out at what percentage/voltage the fan starts turning and use that as the minimum speed in the software.
