Samsung 840 EVO read speed drops on old-written data in the drive - Page 117

I ran the update on mine, had the same problem that @Overnomz mentioned. It updated the firmware, rebooted, then started the 3 step process, bombed out at 80% on step 3. I reran it, and it completed fine.

I'm not sure what the problem was, but I too am a user of Avast.

The 100MB+ results (old/new):

SSD Read Speed Tester (old/new):

From the FileBench results it seems that the old files are somehow "speeding up". The comparison of the numerical data from the SSD Read Speed Tester results confirms this (it is not so much visible in the chart). According to SMART the drive was used for cca. 11 hours in the meantime, and cca. 13.5GB were written to it. I can only speculate if the code change (FileBench 005 vs 007, Speed Tester 2.02 vs 2.03) has anything to do with it. Unfortunately I have no time now to re-run the results with the older versions.

Can you please where where I can get the file bench program you used for benchmarking?

I have Avast on my machine as well and had no issues on my Windows 8.1 machine.

My motherboard is an Asus P8Z77-V with an Intel Core i5 3570K. Standard Intel SATA drivers were installed in Windows 8.1.

I believe the Filebench is a program for Linux and Free-BSD
That was the limit of the info I could find on it, at least. biggrin.gif

Welp, here are my results. Id like to point out that a few days ago i did the "defrag" on the RAID SSDs. The updated one i had to reinstall the entire OS and rebuild the RAID etc etc. Hopefully this sticks, otherwise im done with Samsung SSDs.

850 PRO is a safe choice from all what we know. No evidence has surfaced that would indicate any similar problem. The PRO is also i nthe

Only from this thread actually. I wrote FileBench specifically to test the read speed of existing files for investigating the EVO issue:

FileBench007a.zip 166k .zip file

@GeldrinHor
There is also a program called FileBench for Linux but that's not related at all. I only found out after I had already used the name 'FileBench'. It's so difficult to come up with a completely unique name nowadays wink.gif

Hi @astrixx,

FileBench is a program written by BrainSplatter, available in his posts. He answered you already (in the previous post above, #1166):

SSD Read Speed Tester is written by Techie007, the newest version is always in the first post of this thread:

Nope. My laptop still misbehaves even after a secure erase and re-image.

But HD Tune says different.

I think I'm just going to ignore HD Tach's results on my drives from now on.

Yes, it has already been mentioned several times in this thread that HD Tach has a "pulsing" problem with its graph.
