This is a couple months after the firmware fix. Is this... normal? It's getting significantly worse. Other benchmarks provide the same results.

I might run the performance restoration again (the 3rd time).

no...i had the same issue as you, even after the firmware "fix." I ended up buying an 850 pro. i kept my 840 evo as a secondary drive to store games i don't play very often.

Original Install Date: 11/13/2014, 11:33:31 AM

HDTach is showing the same things that other people are reporting but HDTune isn't. File Bench is showing things are just fine.

I installed the OS clean on November 13th, 2014 and no utilities have been used on the SSD since then.

OK, we need a more formatted reporting system here, if we are going to be able to determine if the firmware fix works or not.

First, when you post your screen shots of poorly performing drives, or drives suspected to be effected by the issue, post the following data as well.

1. Is the OS installed on the drive, if yes, what OS, and how old is the install.

2. Do you have Antivirus software running at the time of testing. if so, what AV software?

3. What chipset model and manufacturer is controlling the SATA interface, and what driver version?

4. If another SSD is active in the system, does an actual realtime file copy from the problem drive exhibit the problem?

5. If possible, monitor and record the drive temps while benching, as well as other temps in the sub system (CPU and motherboard).

6. Post S.M.A.R.T data using something like HDD Scan.

7. Number of background applications and services in task manager, and any CPU intensive processes, CPU utilization during testing.

Hopefully this will allow some corrilation of data to allow an underlying cause to be discovered.

Give me a bit more time to run some more tests, but it looks like older folders on my 840 EVO are slowing down (this is after running the refresh tool and installing new firmware). I am getting reads of ~300MB/s on older folders vs. ~500MB/s on newer folders on FileBench.

SSD Read Speed Tester is also showing drops to nearly 100MB/s in certain sectors.

EDIT: For now, here's the screens anyway:

PvZ was installed since refresh tool, SWTOR since yesterday. 200MB/s difference between them.

Also, everyone please use the latest version of SSD Read Speed Tester, as it displays the SSD's firmware version as well.
