Samsung 840 EVO read speed drops on old-written data in the drive - Page 324

That looks a lot more like typical read look-up slow down as the FTL increases in size. It also looks like he has been adding data to the drive over the tests, which would explain the further slow down.

So, does someone want to interpret my result here for me please? I'm guessing I have the issue as well? I have the normal 840, not the EVO. 250GB flavor.

With Firmware DXT06B0Q

Updated to Firmware DXT09B0Q

Average read speeds increased from 253MB/s to 344 MB/s, but it doesn't look like it affected the older files. Should this really bother me?

I don't know what is the 840 performance but for 840 EVO the issue looked like this with speeds being absolutely terrible.
... OCN won't upload pictures, great.

While you have several hundred MB/s and it may simply be because the 840 wasn't as fast, I dunno how fast it was.
Well it's below 100MB/s at 6-12 weeks.

It sucks to be the owner of something that doesn't work properly, and Samsung was to blame, but they continue to be the most innovative manufacturer of flash based products. Mistakes can happen along the way. Samsung does tend to loss-lead to gain market share and be competitive with their newest products.

As for the base 840, I can only speculate that they didn't sell enough units to justify a revised firmware. It's not acceptable but, the world is hardly fair these days.

I don't care they are loss leader or 'innovate', if you can call this bug innovation and number of units sold is no excuse for them to ignore the original 840's. But they have so I will boycott Samsung products.

I see read speeds drop in the single digits after a few months. It's inexcusable.

If you are referring to those markers aligned to the bottom line then they are normal for 'empty weeks' with no files, I believe.

I mean when read speeds drop to 8MBps.

That means no data available to plot.

Ok, this part of the graph was what I was worried about, so if this is correct then I guess I don't have the issue? Can't remember when I did my fresh install but I'm pretty sure it was in like February. I'll run the test again in a month or two or something and see if the speeds drop. I need to stop reading threads like this, it wasn't even a concern until I came across this tongue.gif
