Samsung 840 EVO read speed drops on old-written data in the drive - Page 7

Yes, I just wanted to show it to you. I did not think you put real malware in it, and I did after all run your program despite that virus scan result. tongue.gif

Sure, and I am glad for it since I was able to remove that problem pretty easily.

Not sure how much time I have the next days but I hope to make the software a little bit nicer. I also want to figure out why HD Tach seems to give similar results in your case but not mine.

Just wanted to chime in, Emisoft Emergency Kit pops up claiming it is the same adware.

Definitely looks like some kind of heuristic detection trigger somewhere in your code. thumb.gif

And good idea!
Keep up the good work

Yeah, already 'fixed' it by changing some compiler options wink.gif

Here is the new 'File Bench' executable.

Thanks BS. I'm running that MyDefrag defrag now. When that is done I will do another FileBench test and post the results.

Wow, what a difference!

After MyDefrag:

Before MyDefrag:

I also ran the Samsung Magician benchmark and now things are back where they should be according to it:

The next time I do a backup of the drive, I'll restore it from that backup directly afterwards and see if that fixes it.

The problem I see with MyDefrag is that it should only read and write the stuff the first time you use it. The next time you run it, most old stuff might already be in the place it wants to put the data, so it won't rewrite everything.

Lol, it seems the EVO needs a defrag after all.

I booted into the Linux installation I have on a different drive and then ran this here:

dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sda

That will read everything from the first drive while writing it to the exact same drive. The first drive in this PC is the Samsung SSD 840 with Windows on it.

Results are now this:

sorted by date, showing oldest files first (Click to show)

There's btw. maybe a bug in the tool as that one file shows ridiculous read speeds. That might be because it was for some reason cached, but I don't know why it would have been. The same file also showed the same speeds in the other run I did earlier today. This time I ran the benchmark directly after booting into Windows before doing anything else.
