The Crew is a vast, gorgeous and diverse imagining of the United States of America; one of the biggest playgrounds ever conceived for high-speed, exploration and MMO action driving. Are you ready to join countless other players on a boundless journey?
I played a bit of the beta (it was only up for maybe two weeks, and I was pretty busy). It was quite fun, although the physics were pretty arcade-y. There was a decent amount of customization available, which was nice.
Controller support was funky, runs at only 30fps although you can mod it to hit 60, physics are very arcade-y and the plot is absolutely ridiculous, but I don't play racing games for the story.
OH and the biggest killer for me is the sense of speed. You just don't feel like you are flying around at 100+MPH
This game looks interesting, and I will probably give it a go. No racing MMO will ever top Motor City Online though. They should totally make MCO 2 with better graphics.
Its going to cost 50 euro, and has extensive micro-transactions to bypass quite a time consuming grind and for P2W.
I'm not sure about this...
If you want to be on top charts, skill is not going to be a factor but all you need is to buy the game and pay for all the performance parts, and walla, wining.
I'm not really kin about this type of gaming.

No but I realized most of the fun was driving a car, any car. And it's more realistic having the vibrations of a real car etc. than just video and audio.

Agreed. I used to absolutely LOVE racing games. Now I mostly can't stand them but maybe it's also because most of them are awful.
I want a real driving experience in a videogame and have yet to experience that.

Ugh.
That being said. It's an expensive hobby. I won't make that argument of, "Well none of us will ever own a Pagani, Ferrari, etc in real life so..." Umm, no. That's not the same as sitting in one and driving it for real. Also multi-screen, surround sound, wheel and motion simulation can not replicate the true experience of driving a vehicle. But again... it's expensive. A track day at Laguna Seca is at least several hundred and that is pretending I already own a car worth putting on the track (I don't). Usually all I get to do is a once a year trip to Exotics Racing in Las Vegas. Two years ago I did the Nissan GT-R on the race track and last year a 911 Turbo S. This year I'm going for the Ferrari 458. This is about as good as it gets for the likes of myself.

I don't think the game itself is really going to fail, however, since the world is so large and people don't usually hang on to games like this very long anyways, the servers will probably be pretty empty after a couple of months. Waiting eagerly for the second beta to start though.
As a fan of racing games in general, I just have to point out that every once in a while, a racing game gets it right. (plot)
The original NFS: Most Wanted was pretty entertaining from a plot perspective (for some reason) and even NFS: The Run was kinda like being in a long movie. The game itself wasn't that great, but it did do the "cinematic" driving game thing well.
But really, what is that? Like .5% of all racing games? LOL. So yeah, you're right. But ridiculous can be fun too.
I love racing games, since GT1 I have found a great many hours of joy in the range of simulation and arcade style games. That being said, I have probably spent more on racing games and peripherals in my life than on my trailerqueen rhd ae86, and an afternoon of autocross in that anemic bucket of bolts is still far more memorable and exhillerating than all the racing games I have played, combined.
The irony is that it was racing games that got me into the sport driving I love now, so I regret nothing. This game might have the mass appeal and accessability to propel more generations of tire burners into exploring the real world of racing like gt1 did, I know it gives me similar warm fuzzies as it is described in the demo.

Honestly the driving is probably the WORST part about this game, and the story shortly after that. Pretty sad for a game that all you do in is drive. I just don't understand how they can put in all these square miles of road to drive, and the driving is not even close to realistic, and is therefore for me, not that much fun.
The physics are absolutely horrendous, especially the damage, and the way the car handles is just... gross. I'm a sim racer, and a little bit of arcade here and there is okay, but this game just makes me sick. Just like watch dogs, the concept seems amazing, but the the execution ends up being sub par at best.
Knowing ubisoft's online pedigree in games, I doubt this game will even be playable enough to have an adequate time playing with others online.
