this weird "heat" issue with sli 780ti's

ok so i have two gigabyte windforce 780ti's, in a corsair carbide 500r. right? well, i modified the side into basically a window instead of having the 200mm fan there. and, i was running warlords of draenor beta up to 70% load on both gpu's (had to create a seperate sli profile for the .exe because its in beta but thats another story)

now im not... THAT concerned about it, but i used to have a fan mounted on the bottom of the case 140mm and a fan mounted on the side, 200mm. now i do not because it looks much better with the windows, and a longer power supply that gets in the way of the bottom fan mount. dont get me wrong the computer looks freaking amazing and i took the disk drive mount out altogether, and mounted my ssd where the bottom fan was (simply screwed it into the fan holes real tight).

im VERY happy with the way it looks. and maybe its just because its an extremely hot day today. its currently like 90 degrees outside. but my primary video card, at 70% load, got up to 83 celsius after a little bit of heat buildup where it used to only hit around 74c.

tl;dr what should i do?:

my thoughts are, i could replace the front two 120mm fans with 140mm fans that are high airflow. i could also try to dremel a hole in the bottom where the hard drive cage used to be, which i'd like to avoid doing because id probably have to take my rig apart to avoid any metal dust getting in the components. my third option that i'd like to try to avoid due to aesthetic reasons, is i could try to dremel a smaller 120mm hole in the slanted part of the side panel.

also, do you guys think replacing the thermal paste on them would help much? seems more of a heat buildup problem rather than a heat transfer problem really. though, i will be replacing the thermal paste very soon anyways.

It seems pretty clear that removing the side fan was the reason for the increase in temps. Especially in SLI these cards get really hot. I have two 780ti evga classies, and before i put them on water, top card would hit almost 85C. Then i added a 120 mm fan blowing directly in between them it literally dropped 10c right away. As for The front fans, 140 mm fans wont help, imo the higher static pressure the better when it comes to air cooling, especially for intake fans that are blowing cool air on your cards. The harder it pushes the air to the gpus the better. So better 120mm fans with high static pressure would help more imo.

And thermal paste is probably not the problem since these temps are normal for the most part, Static pressure=cooler gpu's

yea i was planning on taking them apart (and obviously popping some new thermal paste on there) to do some painting to them make them custom white. kind of like how linus from linustechtips painted his green.

as far as the heat goes, i turned on my evga power supplies fan because it was in eco mode. that dropped temps a tiny bit. i also removed the fan filter in the front of the case so more airflow can get in. it dropped temps a good 5c. im happy with that for now.. but i may add something later on if needed.

man these things do run HOT.

Yeah they do, water does wonders to these. But yeah just try to change up the fans and you'll get a good decrease in temps.

now this is totally something 16 year old me would have thought of way back when, and its totally makeshift, but since i have nothing underneath my 5" bays i literally twist tied my extra 140mm underneath it so its like directly blowing air onto the video cards. unfortunately the beta wont load now cuz it crashed and im at a bugged spot so ill have to test using like bf4 or something.

Wind force is not good for sli. Top card should be water cooled. If not buy the riser cable for second card give some distance btw top and bottom cards.. Try stretching sli cable or order extended one.. Wind force is good for single card .. Easy cool running and overclock able ... Top card suck hot air from card pcb.. Makes it only worse
