The chip maker dismissed AMD's comments by saying a range of Nvidia G-Sync monitors are out now, whereas AMD has yet to launch its first FreeSync monitor. AMD claims that Nvidia's monitors will cost more due to licensing fees
Nah, PR spin, you don't say. Why wouldn't they want to charge a fee and recoup the costs of their innovation? There wouldn't even be free sync without nvidia pushing out Gsync. Of course they want to make money from their project.
this. the whole gysnc solution is horrible because of what is required to actually get it. with freesync, it can be available on every monitor within time.
i wont be getting gsync or freesync because i prefer 4k, unless they make them work with 4k eventually, i just think the back and forth trolling between the companies is absolutely hilarious.
Gsync is here now, and proven working, freesync isn't. If the price of eliminating tearing and stuttering is $100, so be it. I hope AMD can deliver, and soon, because I don't like the thought of monitors becoming brand specific.

Quoted for truth. Of course freesync doesn't work... it's not even in existence yet
. If they deliver so what, we'll compare at that time and if it's slightly cheaper while working identically then it's great it will have spurred some competition on both sides thanks to NVidia putting their G-Sync out in the first place.
Lol, that's actually a pretty weak "slam" in my opinion. I mean, everybody knows Freesync will be available soon so its current lack of availability doesn't really change any of the points AMD made about the tech and they do have a point...

Yep, on a 4k IPS panel myself @ 60hz... no, it's not as razor-clear in motion as a 120hz panel but it looks amazing and is 85% of the same motion quality to me sitting in front of it while looking far better overall than any low-res 1080p TN panel could ever hope to in color, distance detail, aliasing, picture depth, and overall quality.

Both your statement and what you quoted are hugely laughable, and show very little actual working knowledge of what G-Sync is and what FreeSync is supposed to be.

I agree with Nvidia though. AMD hasn't even launched fsync, neither they have showed us how it is compared to gsync.
Unless AMD proves fsync to be equivalent to gsync at lesser price, AMD indeed can't comment on pricing.
I have to take NVIDIA's side on this one, AMD PR Guys are really doing a bad job of promoting FreeSync, instead of being actual grown ups about it, they're doing ridiculous stuff like going on podcasts and saying "Free is better than G, etc".
If not for Mantle AMD would be in complete shambles right now, their R9 series are actually not that bad, the R9 290 when it first launched was an absolute hit.
FreeSync doesn't exist yet, and NVIDIA has no reason to comment on it.
NVIDIA should milk the snot out of G-Sync until some form of competition shows up, but have a cheaper (DP only) version waiting in the wings for the possibility of adaptive sync making it into a mandatory revision of an industry standard.
AMD, in addition to getting a working implementation out ASAP, should hype up things as best they can until FreeSync gets out the door, in order to convince some of those who may be considering G-Sync displays (and the requisite NVIDIA GPU) to hold off.

I tell my wife I'll do certain things "soon" all the time. I normally mean within 5-6 years.
Anyway, AMD has made statements regarding Q1 2015, so I'm not going to be overly surprised or disappointed unless we are still missing FreeSync displays next summer (I always take the latest estimate and add a full quarter).
Haha... NV aren't excited for competition at all. Competition means less profits in the bank.
