"The S340 is a breakaway from our typical Source cases with the designer eschewing the usual heavy use of mesh and lack of window," NZXT's Mitchell Podlaha told Tom's Hardware. He said that the new chassis was built from the ground up, "allowing us to focus on getting the most we could for our money rather than trying to gut a higher end case to an acceptable level."
pretty sexy if you ask me

At $69.99, it is very attractive.

Beautiful, if reviews are good totally getting rid of this flimsy 540. Air flow will be questionable for front intake, you also lose out on any 5.25 bay mounting for fan controllers, lighting, drives etc...

The only thing I'm concerned about is the airflow when running completely on air for gpu and cpu. The 540 is easily the cheapest feeling case I've owned since the first pc I build 11 years ago, i've had the cm 690, cm haf 912, fractal xl r2. Any small imbalance fans make the case vibrate, my HDD made the case vibrate even with the anti-vibration pegs, the case panels are made from the thinnest material I've ever seen, they only included one dust filter yet the bottom of the case has massive openings beneath the drive mounts where the gpu can suck in dust (albeit probably good for air flow if the case is raised enough), I would definitely not drop $130 on this case again.

A shame, I've rather enjoyed mine as it is a solidly built and well-ventilated case in my experience.

With that being said, it still seems as though the S340 is not a competitor to the 540. At $69.99, this is going to go against the Define R4, the Corsair 230 (of which I'm a fan) and the Corsair 300 class.

It's definitely a great case for ventilation, and I realize the S340 isn't meant to compete with it, it would just suit my needs as I don't need a lot of space as I run a gpu, single ssd and no rom drive. I can't attest to the S340's build quality but im sure it will feel more sturdy and solid than the 540. If you've owned a higher end CM case, Fractal case, or Lian-Li I think you would understand how cheap/flimsy the 540 is.

Sexy case and good price! Still love my 540 more though. Love cases which hide the PSU! Good job NZXT.

The only problem I'm seeing is only one fan at the top, I'm assuming there's no 240mm rad capability on top? Not sure if my H100i would reach the front. Not sure what I would do with one of the 140mm fans I have that I'd want to transfer over either. How bad would the noise be if I were to install a CD drive for whenever I actually play a CD based game if I just leave it at the bottom of the case? The only games I own with CD's that I play anymore and don't already have on steam/origin are roller coaster tycoon, sims 2, and sid myers pirates, maybe zoo tycoon and a bunch of random oldies as well.

Wow... I need to go to bed some pretty poor grammatical errors I had (accidentally wrote the word have in the process) to fix.

Airflow would be great in this case. There is little or no restriction from the front.
Top and bottom gap is large enough to allow air to get through. Plus the distance from fan and front panel is plenty.
