[Q] Samsung Galaxy Note 4 vs Samsung Galaxy Note Edge ?

Thread Starter
Samsung reveled two brand new phones the SGN4 and the SGN Edge. The only thing that pushes me to buy one of these phones is the feature that turns a picture into an editable text. It will be a huge PLUS in University in my opinion.

The hardware is exactly the same on both devices. But one has the little curved display. Which do you think is best? Should i make the step and buy the "unsual" smartphone or the "usual" one?

Im switching from an old laggy Galaxy S3 . For daily phone/message use i will have my iPhone 4 small and practical phone. I feel more comfortable calling and texting with iOS .

So whats your opinion guys? I believe that the Edge version will not sell as many as the note 4, and maybe rooting wont be so easy on this device.

That curved screen looks very stupid in my opinion. The Note 3 was already a great device, so would be the Note 4. If money isn/t an issue, go for the Note 4...

personally I like the concept of the edge, it looks very promising. I'd rather have the feature and not need it. Than need it and not have it. (of course need in this sense is really want)thumb.gif

I just saw some information and videos on the note 4 and it looks like a great phone - I appreciate the microSD support and the removable battery, I'm glad they didn't cover the charging port like on the s5 but its at the expense of water resistance. 16mp camera will help, quad core cpu will help, crazy resolution as well and it looks like they managed to keep the phone streamlined as much as possible for a phablet.

I also saw the edge and I applaud Samsung for trying something new and pushing innovation but I'm not too enthused about it, I suspect it will be more expensive than the stock note and the functionality it affords right now is not anything I can get excited over. I'm currently using the s4 which has been a great phone but I'm looking to upgrade and I was considering the LG G3 but the standard note 4 seems to edge it out in my own personal opinion although the cost of the note 4 will definitely be higher. Hopefully given more time the edge will be a game changer.

Wondering what happens to it when its dropped and lands on that edge side or somebody has it in their pocket and leans on it even slightly?

Sure is an interesting looking device. Should be interesting to see what case manufacturers come up with that allow the edge to be visible/interacted with, and hide the "face" of the phone. After all, if the face is visible 100% of the time, what purpose is putting something on the edge of the phone? Baffling, really - I think Samsung did it more for styling and a feature highlight to further set them apart.

I just recently put my Note 3 back on the shelf and swapped back to my S4. I remember "before the Note" the Galaxy seemed like a behemoth of a phone. Now, it's too dang small. LOL.

LOL ^

yeah the note edge will be more expensive than the standard Note 4. Im really worried about the Edge if it falls down to the ground because it has not the metallic frame as the guy above mentioned. I am a big Jungle Heat player and sometimes during a fight I get vober messages which automatically end the battle losing. The problem will be solved with the Note Edge though.. and I think that the battery also will be better on the Edge version because you wont be powering on the entire screen when you want to check the time. 2 identical devices but the edge has something extra why not go for it? I think ill wait for the drop tests and cases.

also what do you think about the root process? I definitely need root access . Still cant decide which phone should I get. Are there any other new phones from different brand maybe?

interesting that you said that about the s4 and the note 3 as I'm currently using the s4 and even though the display is 5 inches I wish it were bigger.

I'm picking up the note 4 and giving my wife my S4 as soon as it hits our shores! The funny thing is my wife still doesn't know all the features of her S2 (like swiping right to call and left to SMS - among other things!)! biggrin.gif
