I want to test the MB to ensure there are no issues before I start the build. Can someone walk me through the MB testing process outside of the case? Thanks for any help.

I figure I need the following to perform the test:
PSU
RAM
CPU cooler

Put your board on your mobo box and connect everything outside the case. Run for stability. Done and done. Thats literally all there is to it. It's super easy to connect everything outside the case.

I decided to do a high end build and wanted to do a 2x custom water loop for the cpu and gpu. I started looking at cases and then came across Jayz2cents build and fell in love with the case. I was going to get the same case (SMA8), but after doing the custom build, I realized it cost more than the STH10 and was nearly the same size. So, I look closely at the STH10 and I like how spacious the case is and how the radiator/fan could be placed front facing. So, I decided to go with the STH10. Also, the fact that I can customize this case to my liking and not stuck with a one size fits all case.

You shouldn't need more than that (besides the obvious; monitor, keyboard and maybe a mouse).

Just did this yesterday. I recommend running a full memtest from a flash drive would be your first to do after assembling the components. If that passes, I would install Windows, all drivers and run some stress test for 24h just to ensure that there is no issues with the system under full load.

There are very likely some burnin test you can run from a flash drive which would also do the job, but I didn't look for this. Also, I prefer to test the system under normal usage scenarios just to find any instabilities early on. Continued to work on the other components (fans etc) in the meantime, so no time lost.

Always a good thing to test the core components outside of the case, makes troubleshooting so much easier. Two of my four (matched kit) DIMMs were bad, so the system wouldn't boot with all four installed. Would've been a pain in the a** to troubleshoot with all my watercooling installed and a full loop!

Good luck!

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Question on Win7 installation. I have an SSD that I cloned Win7 from when I upgraded to a larger SSD. Can I install the cloned SSD and boot into Windows?

bkvamme, that's why I wanted to test the system before I setup my 2x water loops, so that if I have problems I know before going through all that work and then having to tear it down.

That could work, and will possibly work aswell. I have done that (not with windows 7, but windows 10). Well worth a try!

Hehe, yeah. My build is very compact, which doesn't exactly help. One of my fans is not spinning, and I dread troubleshooting. Hopefully it's an easily accessible cable that has disconnected...

What does that have to do with MSI?! You should be posting in the Gigabyte forum!

It does have something to with it, the because the new Msi godlike carbon is not available yet, that's what I'm replacing it with gigabyte board, And besides it's all about the case. They are two colors available one silver and, One carbon. You can imagine how it would look with the MSI Godlike carbon board in it.

Hi all,

I've just joined up to enlist some help from the Krait experts...

I've got the X99A Krait and am nearly at the completion of my build, just waiting for a AIO to come into stock and get delivered so I can finish up.

I have a question regarding the CPU fan headers that you may be able to advise me on.

Can the CPU1 and CPU2 PWM headers be controlled independently from each other?

The reason for asking is that I'd like to run the AIO pump off of 1 header at full speed and then use the other header to run the case fans via the H440 PWM hub at a different speed. Is this viable?

Hi all first time posting and I'm hoping i could get some advice

I've recently built a new rig which was my 1st doing a custom water loop and the specs are as follows :
5820k
Msi x99 krait
16gb 2400 hyper X predator
R9 290
Corsair rm650

so I’ve now got the point where I could really do with some assistance and would appreciate if anyone using the msi bios could help shed some light on a couple of things.

My first attempt at a decent stable overclock got me to 4.5 core @ 1.31v and 3.2 ring @ 1.205v with VCCIN @ 1.9v and all settings on auto, specifically the cpu/ring voltage mode. After stress testing and benching for a couple of hours I noticed that the voltage wasn’t reducing when the cpu down clocked, at least as far XTU, HWmonitor and cpuz were reporting.

I thought this was down to the auto voltage mode basically operating in override, If I set voltage control to override and use the same values above I can’t even get it to boot into windows, however If I remove the ring overclock and go back to stock, it does become stable with just the core overclocked - so now I have no idea what the auto voltage mode is actually doing.

From doing some reading up on various guides and what not, apparently I need to be using adaptive voltage control which would require me to input a target voltage for the turbo boost voltage which may well be applicable on asus, gigabyte boards etc. but I cant find anything in the MSI bios with a similar title.

If I set voltage control to adaptive am I then supposed to enter my target voltage into the cpu core tab? I’m hesitant to try as I don’t want to find out the hard way that I stuck an additional 1.31 volts on top of the whatever the default cpu voltage figure is

Would really appreciate some advice

Fritzo

Yup the 2 can be independently controlled at the moment I have a d5 pwm in 1 and my pwm fan hub in the other and it works fine
