Other than that a CPU seating issue (unlikely) or a duff board

I'll try switching to the other BIOS but past experience with X99 MSI boards tells me that that never remedies any problem (unless the BIOS is corrupt). In that case it shouldve read wrong from the beginning. But i'll give it a shot

If a single card is only being read at 8 that seems a bit weird especially if you don't have any other devices using shared lanes. I don't have that motherboard but I know the lane distribution is slightly different on all of them.

I'll try switching to the other BIOS first and then re-flashing it. And I agree, its very weird. Especially since it was reading everything fine before with a single card. It also reads my cards backwards. My top/master card with the monitor cable plugged in is reading as GPU2 and my slave card is reading as GPU1. I just launched a few games that use Crossfire and its very weird because my slave card is trying to handle more than its share. In other words, my slave card is sometimes using 100% while my master card is sitting at zero. Its very brief, but it should be the other way around.

I was not running any OC's at all because I just got this thing back together and I wanted to make sure everything was working correctly. I havent even finished doing that because I keep running into problems Ive never run into before. The cards are in the correct slots. Im using the EK serial terminal and they are in the 1s and 3rd slots. Board explorer shows they are x16 lanes currently running at x8. GPU-Z confirms this. My only camera is from my crappy old iphone and theres not reason to take a picture.

Your m.2 ssd will run at x4 (i believe) while the two cards will run x16.

afaik only the top two x16 slots are wired for x16 operation, the bottom two x16 slots are up to x8 only

*edit*
I just realise you might be including the x1 slot too which is PCI_E2 so in that case yeah 1st and 3rd smile.gif

If the sound card uses an x1 interface then just run it off the x1 slots which uses the chipset PCI-E lanes (depending on which board you have)

Tried both BIOSes both give me x8 even on a single card.

Reflashed BIOS - I get x8 even on a single card

Cleared CMOS via button - I get x8 on both cards and on a single card as well

I am going to try and force the Gen settings on the lanes. Originally I thought this board allowed me to turn PCIE lanes off. However, the software doesnt give me that option. Also, for an x16 pcie slot, arent there supposed to be pins that run the whole length of the slot? Because Im looking at my slots and the other x16 (all but the master) only have pins halfway through. Isnt that wrong?

As per this pic the top two slots should have pins running all the way, only the bottom two are wired for up to x8
