I just realise you might be including the x1 slot too which is PCI_E2 so in that case yeah 1st and 3rd smile.gif

Its technically slots 1 and 5. Both are labeled as x16 slots. I never count those stupid x1 slots are pcie slots. Its a bad habit when explaining anything and I need to fix that. Just so everyone knows, I wouldnt be wasting anyones time if I wasnt sure that I was plugged into the proper slots. Thats a day-one rookie mistake

PCI_E5 is an x8 only slot, it physically can't go to x16

Was that your suggestion for me? I would love to try that but I have no way of connecting them into the loop if I do that. Its not enough room to get two fittings and hose in there. I have a couple male-to-male rotarys but they are either too big or too small to make that gap

Youre wrong. The manual and Board Explorer both show it as an x16. Board explorer reads the slot as "x16 (running at x8)" and that doesnt explain why a single card in the top slot is running at x8

No it doesn't make sense why it's running as x8 in the top slot on its own but E5 and E6 are definitely up to x8 only, they arent physically wired to run x16 at all.

Have a look at the picture a few posts up and it's plain to see, those two slots were only ever intended to be run in x8 mode and they're called x16 in board explorer as the slot is physcailly an x16 slot, just not funny connected that way.

Thats totally screwed. I stand corrected. I even asked the EK folks if I could use my triple serial block on this board and specifically said that I was needing to have both cards running x16. If they just said "no" I wouldve put it to the side and got other hardware to make it happen. Now its time to figure out why a single card is only running x8 in the top slot

My apologies bleets.

So heres my question, is the Krait the same layout? Im assuming it is. Because I have that board as well. But if slot E5 is true x16 speed then I'll keep the triple serial (with the block-off) on my two cards and swap the board in. If not, then I'll figure out a different config for the two cards and I will pull them off the triple serial connector

Have you tried it in the second slot down? PCI_E3, that actually should run at x16, too.

Lucky for you EK do actually do serial or parallel connectors that would work with the top two slots...if you keep the board

The X99A SLI Krait is the same as the X99A SLI Plus with an upgraded on board audio solution and a different Intel LAN (I218 on the SLI Plus and I210-AT on the Krait) so the x16 slots are wired the same way.

I havent yet because I dont have any way of connecting them in that small of an area. I have to find the other serial connector.

You know what doesnt makes sense? Even if the bottom card in E5 is plugged in to the pcie (but without power cables to the card), shouldnt the top card still always be running at x16 on a 40 lane cpu? Im using the 5930k
