I don't think the board has anything to do with Windows 7/8/8.1/10 installation unless you are referring to UEFI/Fast Boost etc features on motherboards which are more Windows 8/8.1/10 oriented.

Or are you referring to NVME PCI-E SSD? Those had some troubles installing Windows 7. Yeah ,sorry to mis- state my question. I have been hearing that windows 7 wont run on most Z170 boards, and I now ,I wil eventually have to succomb to Windows 10 , but I would like to use 7 as long as i can. So my choices were down to the MSI X99A gaming 7 board, or the Gigabyte G1 gaming 7 Z170 board. This rig will be replacing a Z77 sabertooth setup with a 3770K chip. I have just felt like I was burned by Intel with their mid range chipsets my last 2 builds, especially LGA 1156.Total dead end.

Yes it does I have two SP140 fans from Corsair on my Radiator running off the two CPU headers. Guess I'll have to get a fan control switch.

I actually skipped M.73 that you posted a while ago since I was satisfied with M.72.

But since I'm getting an NVME drive soon, I better update it anyway.

My only concern is since afaik there's no changelog provided with these Beta Bios. While I don't mind that ofc, still I would have like to know a bit more about that "Microcode Update".

Wth. YOLO! Am gonna flash it right now. thumb.gif

Question on BIOS Windows WHQL Support setting

In the BIOS for the X99A SLI Plus there is (of course) the setting under the Advanced options:

Settings > Advanced > Windows OS Configuration:> Windows 8.1/10 WHQL Support

Default for me was "Disabled". Here is what I am curious about:

Has anyone using 8.1 or 10 activated this? Should it be activated or left alone or does it even matter? And, what could this negatively affect? Is this only for driver support?

I am pretty sure that I never used this option even when my main rig was an AMD rig. Its just been too long and I dont remember.

Question on Crossfire Master and Slave card for X99A SLI Plus

As Ive stated earlier, my system is reading my master card as GPU2 and slave card as GPU1. I didnt think it would affect performance but its still hard to tell. My question(s):

Has anyone just used the card in slot 3 as their master card and if so, has it run smoothly? Also, does your system automatically flip the card order around so that no matter what card your display is plugged into, that master card is always reading as "GPU2"? (Im referring to Afterburner reading it as GPU2)

Yeah I feel you, unfortunately MSI hasn't been releasing change logs along with their Beta BIOSes, but from what I can see this one has a different color scheme and some new TPM options introduced. Last BIOS M.81 had a readout error where the motherboard temperature was impossibly high.

As far as the microcode goes, you'd have to go ask Intel about it, since they don't release any information on them either. Still, the latest Microcode is going to be loaded by Windows 10 no matter what (provided you have enabled auto updates).

Windows 8.1 and older do not do have the new uCodes, so uCode 2D from late 2014 is going to be ran unless uCode in the BIOS has been updated.

Thank you Andi. That was really helpful. Yeah I read about that temp readout issue over MSI forums.

And since I have reverted back to W7 for my benching, I better update to the one without the Microcode update and when I install my Windows 10, I will let them do their thing through the updates.

Thanks again. thumb.gif

realy ?

Anything plugged into that last slot shares lanes with the m2 so m2 will automatically drop to x2. Says it in every possible configuration.
