[Official] MSI X99S/A Motherboard Owners Club - Page 248

I got my MSI X99A Xpower AC on 12/18/15. It died today, 4/10/16. System had been up and running for a couple weeks without a reboot and all was well, but I thought I'd give it a quick reboot before doing some gaming tonight. Instead of rebooting and coming right back up, it powered off for a moment and then powered back on with a 00 code, and no POST. No changes or anything to the system, no bios upgrade (was still running the bios it shipped with).

Subsequent power cycles all result in either 00 or 04 codes. I've pulled everything off the board, swapped power supplies, swapped video cards, cleared the CMOS, swapped bios, but no dice. I doubt its the CPU since it had been working right up until the reboot without issue, and only have a minor overclock, nothing too extreme (5820K at 4.3ghz).

Put my old Asrock Extreme 6 + 4790K back in until I can go thru the RMA process with MSI. Hope they'll do an advance replacement.

Many thanks Nick.

Hi,

I think the only difference between a X99 S and a X99 A is the A-model has 2 usb 3.1 ports at the back of the motherboard, and the S-model hasn't got that usb 3.1 ports (only USB 3.0). Visually, the motherbaords are the same.

Hope it helps.

Contacted MSI support when they opened today. They were friendly and there was no issue getting an advanced replacement. They billed my Visa $350 which should get credited back around 5 business days after they get my return. Pretty standard process. Hope the replacement works.

Awesome! Are you going to use more than one gpu? If so, I want to ask you about how it recognizes them. My X99A SLI Plus reads my master gpu as GPU2. It drives me crazy. I want to know if this board does the same

Its actually both Afterburner and even in Crimson. My master GPU is read as gpu2 and my bottom card (slave card) is read as GPU1. Its just weird (and slightly annoying). Actually, even GPU-Z reads that way too. If your main gpu is gpu1, then that is another reason for me getting this board. Thanks for letting me know.

Hey fellow MSI X99 owners. I'm currently doing some system restructuring to accommodate a custom loop setup and am using the SLI Plus motherboard, and need to use a low-profile memory instead of the HyperX Predator sticks I have in there now, due to the large heat sinks preventing a radiator from being installed. There seems to be a pretty big price difference between 2400 mhz and 3000 mhz RAM (what I'm currently using), so I'm wondering if there will be a large performance difference in moving a step down to the 2400 to save some money?

hi,
i have a question.
My vocre in BIOS is 1,25V (Vid=1,25V)
In HWiNFO64 or HWMonitor or Aida, reported Vcore is 0,19V at idle and 0,136V at full load....
Clearly, there is an isssue on this reading value on my motherboard (MSI X99S GAMING 7 BIOS H.A0).

does anyone has this issue ?

The X99A Krait does the same thing, its a bios/layout 'bug'. 2 970s. If you read about it on the net it kinda should not be possible to change the numbering, so this is a bios/layout thing. Do not like it either.

I just had my sent to RMA a few weeks back because one of the Ram slots went bad and if that single slot was populated I would get a computer on with no posting, just black screen while the pc was on... sadly my krait doesn't have a on board posting display so I had no idea what was causing until I started fooling with the ram locations.

I tried it in every combination, Luckily Amazon is willing to send me a replacement (Carbon too) to replace it and replace my CPU just to be on the safe side. I'm pretty sure I found out what happened. Somehow a few drops from my Reservoir made contact with the edge of the board. Atlease I hope that what caused the problem. I'm not looking forward trying to get motherboard back into my case(Due to the fact I didn't disconnect my loop on GPU/CPU).

Corsair was also willing to send me some new ram as well.
