Mount PCI SAS Expander in Pedestal?

I have an M8 that I want to add a bunch of drives to. Part of this involves a SAS expander card as seen here:

The card is a PCIe form factor but doesn't need an actual slot as it can be powered by a 4-pin source.

I don't currently have a great PCI slot to mount this card and deal with the cables. So it occurred to me that if I could somehow mount it in a pedestal or on top of the case under a 120mm cover, that this would give me plenty of room to deal with the cables and get airflow to the card.

Benefits of mounting it on top of the case is easy access. Benefits of the pedestal is that I can use right angle SATA cables on the drives and run the cables right into the pedestal where they will then plug into the adapter.

But I'm not sure how to actually mount it. It would be nice if the PCI bracket could be removed and the card just bolted to something with standoffs, but it's not clear if that can be done.

Thoughts or other ideas?
