[ASUS] Z10PE-D8 WS Dual Xeon Workstation Motherboard

Quote:
  • Quad Strength Graphic Power – 4-Way PCI-E Gen3 x16 link supporting NVidia GeForce SLI and AMD CrossFireX on demand
  • Supreme Power Solution – Premium components deliver industry-leading power efficiency
  • Unique BIOS for Dual CPU O.C. –Boost CPU’s overclocking performance up to 10%
  • Superb storage flexibility– onboard M.2 x4 and support for ASUS PIKE II cards
  • Easy maintenance–ASUS Q-Code Logger, an easy-maintenance button and Dr. Power LED displays unusual power statuses

It looks like ASUS released their workstation version 2P motherboard for LGA2011-3. It is a direct successor to the popular Z9PE-D8 which directly competes with the SR-X. With EVGA having bowed out of the dual Xeon high end boards, this is essentially everything an EVGA SR board would have been had they decided to make one.

I'm not a fan of the gold heatsinks. The previous generation's silver was much easier to stomach but if I were to buy this board, I'd definitely plasti dip the heatsinks or buy the EK waterblocks for this motherboard. Lowfat certainly did an amazing job with his Z9 plastidipped heatsinks.

I'm torn between this board and Supermicro's X10DAC board. All my computers are built on an ASUS or Supermicro motherboard. If the ASUS allows for some bclk overclocking I'll go with it.

But the Haswell EP offerings suck really bad for anything other than a full time rendering machine. The 2687W v3 is a total waste compared to Ivy and Sandy Bridge EP frown.gif

I think I might just stick with a 5960X even though this is a perfect motherboard for Haswell EP sad-smiley-002.gif

Your making sense though. I do a lot of media work but not to the degree to get my money's worth out of a system like this.
Most of the time I will use my gaming PC for single threaded apps or apps that take advantage of higher MHz.

I'm impressed by the board.
