After moving my components to the DS1 from my Corsair Air 540, temps ran higher, with the stock fans kicking up a few notches more when gaming etc which was annoying.
Considering I'll be water cooling in a few months anyway I decided to use what fans I had whilst making a few changes to the layout of the DS1 in order to bring the temps whilst running fans at 5V and the case's chimney open.

Running only the stock rear 140mm fan and front 2x120mm fans with drive cages and filters installed it got toasty while gaming understandably.
-installed 2 Corsair AF140L stock case fans in the top
-removed front filters and drive cages entirely
-re-cabled to get wires out of the airflow path and used the 5.25" bays to store all the fan controller's excess wire

Result: GPU and CPU fans spun up later but still stayed on for the majority of the time

So optimizing for positive air flow to control dust filtering I swapped Corsair SP120's into the front and removed the rear fan entirely.
Using MSI Afterburner to monitor I achieved these max temps whilst playing Borderlands 2, Fink's Slaughterhouse Arena Mission (ambient was about 20 deg)
CPU:77
GPU1: 87
GPU2: 72

After a few iterations of changing and testing I ended up with:
Top: SP120 + AF140 (would have had 2 SP120s due to the restrictiveness but only had 3)
Front: 2 SP120 bolted to the rad mount as in the fan cage they were too loose.
Bottom: BitFenix Spectre Pro
Resulting temps on the same mission:
CPU: 75
GPU1: 68
GPU2: 64

Pretty happy with the temps and the stock fans don't even spin up noticeably when gaming either anymore.

For now I'm happy and might just replace the AF140L and Spectre Pro with SP120s however can't wait to see the differences that water-cooling makes

Notes
1-There were a few changes and tests ran between the initial and final measurements however I skipped most of the boring details, the temp decreases are consistent with the trend as changes were made however
2-These aren't the most perfect test scenarios but good enough

So my stock Intel cooler's bearings finally crapped out (why can't it be maintained!?) so I replaced it with a Coolermaster 212 Evo for $35.
I went with the 212 because:
- I'm water cooling so did't want to spend over $50 on a air tower
-wanted something better than the stock Intel

Didn't even bother with the provided fan and put two of the Nanoxia deep silence 120's on push/pull strait away.
Now idles 4 deg cooler at 4Ghz (previously 3.3Ghz) with poorer case fan ventilation due to using case fans on the cooler.
When at idle (and due to some gpu fan profile tweaking in MSI afterburner) the loudest thing in my case now is the psu fan of the Corsair HX850 and a capacitor buzz on the mobo.

Playing the same level in borderlands 2, max temp is now a very stable 57 degrees on the CPU

The fan arrangement currently is:
CPU cooler: 2 Nanoxia DS 120mm
Top: 2 Corsair 140mm AF140L
Bottom: Nanoxia DS 140mm
Rear/Front: none

My water-cooling plan has changed a little as well:
Going to have an external Alphacool 480mm Monsta with external pump and res all on a stand (will provide a build thread when it's done) and have all Nanoxia fans in the case. However have an exhaust biased airflow with 3 top/rear 140mm out and 1 140mm bottom inlet with the front ports being empty allowing for air to be drawn in from the fans exhausting.
This should allow for an extremely capable and quiet build when I get around to it

Next on the list may be replacing the PSU fan with pictures if I decide the noise annoys me too much

Yeah thanks, I'm impressed that the case flows as well as it does however took 3 fans intake and 3 exhaust to achieve it so not silent.

I'm currently waiting on Pccasegear.com to restock their Alphacool Monsta 480s to watercool with a fully self contained rad/pump box

So went ahead and ordered:
1x Alphacool Cape Corp Coolplex Pro 50 LT (because it was the cheapest non-shoddy tube reservoir they had)
2x Masterkleer Tubing PVC UV Reactive Blue/Clear 1/2ID 3/4OD 3m -UV reactive because it was the same price as clear...so why not?
smile.gif

1x Alphacool NexXxoS XP3 waterblock
10x Alphacool 13mm Barbed Fitting with O-Ring G1/4 Black
1x EK D5 Vario 12 DC Pump -every review and also friend's opinions from using it in their builds said the D5 was pretty much the best thing. The EK was the cheapest of all the re-brands.

And still ordering:
2x Alphacool NexXxoS Monsta 480mm rads

The reason why I have so much rad space is that because the aim is for maximum quietness, might as well go as big as I can afford. Plus going from a 360mm to 480mm monsta is only 20% difference in price for 33% more radiator.

Should be less than another month before I can get the remaining parts.

Until then I will plan how I'm going to make the box and track down some affordable QDCs to keep the remaining cost to a minimum

Made some changes to the build due to the cost of the Monsta 480s rising from $149 to $195ea.
So for now considering its a cpu only loop for the time being as there's no point putting the xfire 7870s under water, I've gone with a single monsta 240 in the case with push pull config.
The good news is that work has got a few projects in to do so should be able to buy the 2 monsta 480s in the next pay check as it's monthly

The parts arrived last week.
Pretty impressed with the nanoxia fans for $6ea.
Each 1800rpm fan comes with green silicon vibration reducing mounts, fan screws and a voltage reducer.
Also purchased gaskets to reduce vibrations, windowed side panel, tube cutter and some fan splitters.
The Monsta 240 is amazing. Comes with gunmetal grey brass/copper plugs, separate stickers so you can mount them any way you want and enough allen key screws for a push pull config and an allen key tool.

(Pics in previous post)
After much struggling, the test fit is a success.
Just need to do some cable management when I get the time.

Now onto some awesome news:
Bought a 2500k with the Intel warranty seal intact on PCCG that I bought for $219AU! So now I can finally upgrade from my 2500

Comes with a 3 year warranty too!

Will be finishing the installation of the cpu loop tomorrow and then will see what I can do in terms of noise insulation.
I'm thinking of removing the rear and bottom fan, then putting a layer of sound insulating foam in the bottom and rear. This should reduce sound escaping out of the grills and reflecting off of the walls and desk.
Will also allow a vibration reducing mount for the pump as well.
I'll also be removing a gpu as with that setup it would be silly to continue to run air cooled crossfire.
After I upgrade the gpu this year, it will be added to the loop as well.
Anyone know where to get decent foam?
Clark runner any good from anyone else in Aus?

I have this case and removed the HDD cages first thing after unpacking it.

Something I did too was flipping my PSU belly up to remove more air and forget about the filter at the bottom of the case.

If you want some advise you should put a filter at the front intake.

Yeah I removed them first thing as well, will mount the drives on the radiator with Velcro now.
Flipped the psu last week as well to cut down the psu fan noise, need to replace it's fan anyway.
Removed the 5.25 drive bays today as they were pushing down the res, and doing so allows for cleaner tubing tuns plus easy fill access to the res above the radiator in its current configuration.
Pics as soon as I test it tomorrow and clean up the ghastly cabling!

After working on my mac G5 build for a while, i've decided to come back to this to finish it off.
Best option at the moment is ditch the monsta 240 and go for a 240x30mm rad up front and a 360x30mm rad up top. That way I can fit in my pump and res. It may even end up being aesthetically pleasing
