Testing ThunderboltEX II on Z77

So I built my sig rig a while ago with the Z77 Sabertooth. One of the reasons I chose the Sabertooth was the Thunderbolt header which would supposedly allow for the original ThunderboltEX card from Asus. Thunderbolt connectivity isn't super important to me but hey, why not, right? So after building my rig I waited a while and even asked Asus reps on a Q&A session on Anandtech about the card... Apparently it never got certified by Intel as a valid Thunderbolt device. Yay. So then Asus goes and releases the Z87/Z97/X99 boards with the same TB header, and the ThunderboltEX II card comes out. This card is listed as only compatible with the Z87 and up boards. I couldn't find anything online saying definitively if it is or isn't compatible with Z77.

Long story short, I bought the card, plugged it into my board, and it seems to work. I've confirmed the Displayport pass through works, but I don't have any Thunderbolt devices to test with. Has anyone else tried this, and does anyone have any suggestions for a somewhat inexpensive Thunderbolt device I could test with?

For those of you who are not familiar with it, here is a stock image of the ThunderboltEX II on a Z97 board. Its just a gen 2.0 PCIe x4 device that takes a DP input from the iGPU and connects to the 9 pin "TB" header. All that for 1 Thunderbolt connector...
