Will Broadwell work with 8 series chipset?

Thread Starter
Sorry to ask this question as I think I already know the answer of this question. But I could be wrong, so will Broadwell be compatible with 8 series MBs? Or is 9 series bare minimum?

I am pretty sure they will be compatible. It is just a matter of a bios update and it is up to the MB vendors to provide it.It's the same socket and the same hardware.Rumors and statements turn out not to be true many times till the product release.

Is there any reason why Broadwell would not work with Z97 but not Z87?

Im just curious because I would really like to buy an ASRock Z87M OC Formula rather than its Z97 counterpart.

It should work on Z87 with a bios update. In the past Ivy Bridge worked on P67 and Z68 with bios updates, so I see no reason why Broadwell wouldn't be the same with Z87.

Exactly. That's what common logic says. Same socket, almost identical platform (only difference a couple of irrelevant features).

I compared my Sabertooth Z87 with some Z97 Boards. Zero hardware differences. They are the same thing. And yes they said the same about Devil's Canyon.Just Marketing policy. Same socket, same hardware, same power management.I am sure about Broadwell support on Z87.
