Ok, so, I will be doing the swap either tonight or tomorrow, and I will take pictures to show this, but for now I will just explain. The Komodo 670 block, does in fact fit the "reference" short 970 PCB (at least the EVGA I have). The problem is, the heatsink area that actually touches the die is the exact size of the 670 die, which is smaller than the 970 die. Seeing as how it's only directly cooling a portion of the die, I'm betting my temps will be much better once I replace it with the EK block I just recieved. I certainly feel much safer having full coverage of the die, because it seems more likely those sections could be overheating and then fail, and I would never see it coming.
